We've posted a few stories in the past few months about Wrangler Rubicon production issues. We just received a report from a long-time reader of this site that sounds like the production problems continue...
Seems that the manufacturing side is constrained to 22 Rubicons per day due to the unique components from the suppliers. The problem is that there are currently 8000 orders submitted for the Rubicon model. DCX may be in such a position that they will have to cancel as many as 6000 orders or try to persuade the dealers to convert them to 2008 orders.
Keep in mind that this is hearsay - we haven't been able to confirm this information in any shape or form.

![]() If i were purchasing one id be waiting until the 08 model year anyway at least for the rubi. I have an 05 rubi unlimited and not one problem. Let DCX get all the bugs worked out and the supply problems fixed or whatever else is holding up production then purchase one....id feel more comfortable knowing its all be taken care of as ive purchased a vehicle with numerous recalls and/or was at the dealer for other problems. I would rather spend my time my own way instead of waiting on auto repairs or trips to the dealer.....

![]() I ordered my Rubicon in October and finally was able to pick it up in late March. Everything is working fine and I especially love the new freedom top. I'm confident that some glitches will eventually pop up but so far I am very happy with my new toy. My only bitch is that in true Wrangler fashion it gets lousy mileage...

![]() I hope LaSorda via his minions are monitoring this site. Jeep supporters are here, free, great word of mouth publicity and zippo from them.
Listen to your publics. ;) |

![]() JeepXK is right.
There is no evidence of design flaws holding back production of the Rubicon. I think demand for the Rubicon has caught the company flat-footed. I know the issues with MyGIG are not only affecting the Wrangler, but Sebring/Avenger and the Nitro as well. |

![]() Speaking as someone who works for a Tier 1 supplier and is IN the auto industry... if there are major delays in delivering new vehicles (read: that's sure money in DCX's pocket!) then there's usually only 1 of 2 reasons:
1) A component supplier is screwing something up and it has yet to be resolved or resourced (maybe it's that newfangled superwhompadyne disconnect front sway bar?) 2) There is a serious (undisclosed) design flaw that is in dispute and is taking too much time or $$$ to correct. OEMs absolutely HATE to make changes once a design --good or bad-- has been approved. And they never want to pay extra for a needed design change (the supplier always gets bent over for that!) Regardless of whether it corrects the problem, they are notoriously slow to react. ![]() We have several OBVIOUS design deficiencies (potential RECALL issues) that have been in limbo for over 2 years, because the OEMs don't want to "change" anything. They'd rather stay put in a minefield, than take step in the right direction. ![]() |

![]() Oh I can confirm the delays.
I ordered my Rubicon JKL on Feb 5th. I cancelled the MyGig option April 3rd. It's been in "D" status with a VIN since April 12th. The dealer has indicated that it may wind up becoming a 2008 model by the time I get the thing delivered. Kinda sucks because I have the car loan check in hand, and start making payments on a vehicle that isn't even built June 11th. |

![]() It seems to me that this should be a sign that many customers want the Rubicon. Supply problems aside, I hardly ever see a Rubi at the dealers either TJ or JK. Not that DCX should dilute the 'pool' but maybe they need to understand that customers want these features and they should probably consider adding additional production for this line or heaven forbid look at getting rid of a different trim level.
Seriously...I don't know many people that buy the Sahara Trim level. |
