I took my AMC20 rear end out to swap the axles to one piece units and while looking at the gears I noticed something off on some of the teeth (see pictures). A couple of the teeth appear to be pitted. Is this okay? Are the gears still usable like this?

Seen a lot worse. I'd run it, unless you're eventually thinking about a gear swap.

Looks like the diff got some water in it at some point. Make sure the vent hose opening is up high and change the fluid often. Gears should be ok to run as they have large teeth. Be sure to check the bearings too.

Nice pattern-:D
Your fine- :chug:

^^ Haha - good one!

Thanks for the input everyone. I was hoping that it would be ok as I'm not ready to do a gearing change (yet).

The fluid that came out was okay, but certainly wasn't perfect, so I was figuring on a bearing change at least for the carrier (along with the axles), but I might just go ahead and have somebody do the pinion bearing and re-setup the gears as well.

Thanks again! :chug:

If it isn't noisy or leak'n oil--Don't worry about it.

Lumpy said EVERYTHING I was going to say right down to the pattern. :)
