Grand CherokeeWant a Bigger Hemi With Your Jeep?
Posted by mike on 2005/5/1 23:00:00 (1121) reads

Part of the Hemi engine is getting bigger - but it won't affect horsepower.

DaimlerChrysler thinks that your Hemi needs to be bigger. But it's not the Hemi engine that we're talking about, it's the Hemi emblem on the exterior of your Jeep that will increase in size. Why are we writing about this? We're not sure, but it seems like just the thing for a Monday morning. Here's a snippet:

Chrysler Group is building a bigger, better HEMI badge.

"By increasing the size of the HEMI badge, we’re building awareness and helping our customers communicate what they’re packing under the hood," said George Murphy – Senior Vice President, Chrysler Group Marketing.  "With more than 500,000 sold, the HEMI V-8 engine continues to resonate with consumers.  The HEMI has become a brand within our brands.  Across our Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge lineups, the take-rate for the HEMI is 44 percent."

For Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Jeep Grand Cherokee, the HEMI badge will increase 145 percent in size.  For Dodge Ram and Durango, the size of the HEMI badge will increase 136 percent.

Online Jeep Games

We've been aware of the free, downloadable Jeep games that have been offered on Jeep.com for quite sometime now, but we've never taken the time to really check them out - until now. These are the usual Flash-based games we're talking about, these are fully-downloadable games. Granted, they are usually limited to a single level or two of a bigger game, but they're fun to play nonetheless. We were especially enamored with the "Jeep Trail of Life" game based on the Tomb Raider movie despite the fact that we were able to drive around under water for a few minutes without a visible snorkel.

Unless they combine the hemi with hybrid technology it is the wrong engine for the times. The high fuel prices are hear to stay. Bring on gas hybrids, diesels, or hybrid diesels. Or electric drivetrains powered by generators to reduce drivetrain friction loses. Does anyone remember the Edsel? Nice, but wrong car for the times.

I think DC should get with the times and offer us the crd with six speed manual. This is truly a crawlers engine and offers excellent fuel economy. The diesel technology is available, proven, and, with fuel prices as high as they are, one would have to be a fool, or indecently wealthy, to go with a gas guzzling hemi.

The Overland name will return to the Grand Cherokee lineup this fall. It is just a trim level and will offer the 5.7L not the 6.1L.

Unfortunately it will not be offered in Midnight Blue so I guess I will stick with buying a Limited.

I agree... I know it was the SRT team that developed the 6.1L, but why does it have to be limited to SRT vehicles? At 425 hp, the 6.1L is the most powerful (hp/ci) engine Chrysler has ever offered. Why can't the name "Rubicon" become Jeep's "SRT" devision? This could be applied to all models under Jeep. I don't see the 6.1L too practical in a TK, but why not in a "Rubicon" or "Overland" edition WK? With the upcoming Hybrid system and MDS on the 6.1L, they could offer a high horsepower/high(er) fuel efficiency trail rated Jeep.

here is my comment: I think it's very good move to make the Hemi name plate larger. What I can't understand is why they didn't put dual exhaust with chrome tips, if you want to make the statement "Yeah, it's got a Hemi"!

I would also like to see a 6.1 Hemi Trail Rated Jeep.
