Three recently announced promotions will keep Jeeps in your face

Within the past month, DaimlerChrysler has announced no less than three promotions that will ensure that the Jeep brand is visible on television and video screens around the world.

First up - how about driving a Wrangler Unlimited up a mountain. In snow. At the X Games. Driven by X Games Athletes. Then back down again. Here's a snippet from the press release:

While most of the action at this past weekend's ESPN Winner X Games was focused on coming down Buttermilk Mountain, one event - the second annual Jeep® Adventure Comp-featured athletes rallying Jeep Wrangler Unlimited up Buttermilk Mountain.

Tripping the stop watch with a steep hill climb up Tiehack run, snowboarders, skiers, dirt bike jumpers and snowmobile racers all hammered the pedal and put the Jeep vehicles to an extreme test--driving up the side of snow-covered Buttermilk Mountain, then back down through a slalom course.  The run not only let the drivers prove their ability, but also gave the vehicles a chance to show off their Jeep Trail Rated capability.

Next up - design a skate park, win a Jeep Liberty Renegade. Here's a snippet:

Activision, Inc. and the Jeep brand® have teamed up on a unique online promotion that gives gamers a chance to tout their design skills by entering the Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Jeep “Rail Rated” Contest and Sweepstakes.  Beginning February 2 through March 15, 2005, consumers have the opportunity to design the sickest skate park for the chance to win the ultimate “Rail Rated” prize package of skateboarding gear and apparel.  For a chance to win a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade visit www.thug2online.com/railrated to enter the sweepstakes.

Finally, NBC television and Jeep are teaming up once again for "Jeep World of Adventure Sports" a not-quite-weekly show focusing on adventure sports. Some sports scheduled to be shown include motocross, mountain-based adventure races, extreme waterskiing, and big-vertical drop extreme skiing. That's the cool thing about Jeeps. They appeal to more than just the extreme off-roader. They do have a urban-ruggedness (sp?) to them. As offroaders feel safe in a Jeep climbing a mountain they also give those a sense of security driving throught the inner-city. Of course you need to opt for the bullet-proof edition.

Mabye JEEP should sponsor a Shooting event on Outdoor Life Network...Mabye have a bi-athalon-type event, but instead of Skiing and Shooting, Drivers could drive through a snow-covered slalom course while the passenger fires a belt-fed .50 cal. BAR while on the move, mounted on a tripod bolted to the floor...

Brand awareness is a major driving force when it comes to selling any product. How much it will help drive new buyers to Jeep will remain to be seen, but most likely it will help increase the numbers.

On a completely different note, Jeep will be officially unveiling its 2005 Rocky Mountain Editions this week. Also, 2006 will mark the return of the Overland trim package for the Grand Cherokee. Both should help drive additional sales.

ooj, you're not dreaming. I saw it too. Can't remember
any details, though.

I looked at the renegade give away, and I have to say
that I doubt too many people in the target audience
care much for the styling of the liberty. It should be an
Unlimited in the sweepstakes. But this kind of thinking
really concerns me because it seems to indicate that
they don't know that. I am concerned that they will
continue to make tacky and superficial changes to the
liberty in a hollow and cynical attempt to "toughen" it,
INSTEAD of making the 4-door wrangler(Dakar) that I,
at least, find infinately more appealing.

I think for Jeep has the targeting right on this campaign. When it comes to extreme sports, people need an extreme vehicle which is where the unlimited comes in.

For the designing of a skatepark, the type of people that tend to be doing this are more urban, and a decked out liberty would be perfect for to fill their needs.

This is a good marketing move. (Driving an Unlimited up a mountain would be a cool sight!) However, I feel Jeep needs to beef up its commercial advertising campaigns also. Not everyone watches these shows, which seem to be all geared towards young snowboarders and bikers. Granted this audience represents the "Jeep lifestyle", I feel its too specific. I just miss the simplistic creativity of the older Jeep tv ads that in some way or another related to almost everyone who saw them.

Interesting....Wasn't there going to be a Jeep-Themed animated motion picture coming out? I thought I had seen some peeks in a 4-wheeling mag....sort of a Jeep with some vintage WWII fighter planes and such..Am I dreaming?
