Diesel Wranglers, Canadian Wranglers, Wrangler Workers
One of our sources let us know that a cold weather testing facility has recently seen 4-cylinder Wranglers with 6-speed transmissions. Combine this rumor with the diesel Wrangler frame we reported on recently and things may be coming together.
Canadian Wrangler Unlimited Pricing Released
Are you Canadian? Like the new long-wheel-base Wrangler Unlimited? Then you can have one for less than 30K (Canadian). Here's a snippet from the auto123.com article:
DaimlerChrysler Canada recently announced pricing for its all-new 2004.5 Jeep TJ Unlimited. The new model, a stretched version of the venerable TJ, will be released with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $29,195.
"For those who always wanted to drive the icon of off-road vehicles but wanted more space, the legendary Jeep TJ Unlimited has taken the limit out of interior space," commented Ron Smith, Vice-President of Marketing, DaimlerChrysler Canada. "The extension of the TJ was not limited to just stretching the wheelbase. The rear seat has been repositioned, the trunk has been enlarged, and the new Sunrider soft top operates like a huge sunroof. It all adds up to more versatility, capability and comfort."

Toledo Jeep Assembly Recalling 85 Employees
WTOL-TV recently posted the "State of the City" address by the Mayor of Toledo, Ohio, Jack Ford.
In the address, we learned something we haven't heard yet - that DaimlerChrysler will be recalling 85 employees that were previously laid off from the Jeep assembly plant. Here's a snippet of the address:
In December, we received the great news that Jeep will invest $2 billion in their new facility and in Toledo's economy. This will result in the full recall of 85 Jeep employees. Let's thank the UAW and DaimlerChrysler for their faith in our community.
Good news indeed. You can check out the full address here.

![]() Hopefully, if the wrangler gets a diesel. May it get the liberty's/cherokee's VM 2.5Lcrd 141hp 253lb-ft and the VM 2.8Lcrd 160hp 295lb-ft. For the rubicon, I'd love to see the new MB V-6 3.0L 190hp 323LB-FT.

![]() A broader line-up of engine choices would better suite different applications and probably broaden the market a little for the Wrangler. The deisel may fit the needs of those who want more torque, while the 3.7 (if they scrap the 4.0 for the next generation wrangler) and the 2.4 would suite others better.
I read an article from TheHemi.com back in September about future Hemi engines that are rumored to be under development. One engine was a V6 Hemi producing an estimated 300hp... can these rumors be substantiated? Since the 5.7 Hemi is finding its way into the WK, I wonder if a V6 Hemi can find its way as a replacement of the 4.0, rather than the 3.7? Here is the article... http://thehemi.com/news.php?id=20030929-1 |
