Info and spy shots on the Scramber and Grand Cherokee - Liberty woes
We've been hearing bits and pieces from our readers and from around the web regarding future Jeeps - here's what we've got... Speakfreak wrote us: I just got some news from chrysler,the scramber will be out in march 2004 as a 2005 model. It seems that the Jeep Liberty isn't selling as well as DaimlerChrysler had hoped. Here's a snipped from TheToledoBlade.com: U.S. sales of Jeep Libertys have nearly stalled as the Ford Escape, Saturn Vue, and Hyundai Santa Fe have picked up speed, leaving inventories of the Toledo-made sport-utility vehicle at a worrisome high. The Liberty conquered the compact sport-utility vehicle category in 2002 but is in second place so far this year, behind the Escape by more than 5,000 units. Yet DaimlerChrysler AG isn't concerned about Liberty sales, a spokesman said. The sales took a dive in September, along with those for other Chrysler vehicles, because the automaker primarily was selling 2004s while competitors were offering deep-discounted 2003 models, said David Elshoff. "You would expect [inventory] stocks to go down as we're selling 2004s against competitors' 2004s," said Mr. Elshoff, adding that '04 Libertys started appearing on dealership lots in July. Chrysler started October with a 103-day supply - nearly double those of some key competitors - of Libertys on dealership and factory lots. Sales plunged 38 percent in September from the same month last year. Sales for the first nine months of this year compared to last are down 5 percent at 118,549, the automaker said. The fit and finish combined with storage space makes the KJ a much more capable vehicle then the TJ will ever be. I consider my TJ a sports car and my KJ a necessity. The owners who need a vehicle they can lift and tweak just to spend one weekend a month rock crawling are a minority. What I want is a TJ I can live with daily. Why do I have to break my fingers just to open the rear plastic window so that i can store items? Why can't Jeep come up with an easier way to drop the top like ever other car out there? Why doesn't the rear gate turn the dome light on? Why doesn't the gate stay open on a hill? Why doesn't the driver seat lift forward like the passenger seat? Fixing these problems will not hurt the off-road capability of the vehicle but will make it more user-freindly something the KJ has over the TJ.

I had a TJ which I liked but I did find it inpractical for my growing family. Now I have a 2001 XJ which is the best of both worlds: It can go off-road; it is practical as a suburban-family car.
The KJ is more refined than the XJ i.e, split rear seat, rear tire carrier, sunroof option, better view from inside, quieter ride etc.
With that said, the reasons why I chose the XJ over the KJ was: better ground clearance; better off-road, prooven I6 engine; tuff and probably more reliable AW4 tranny; cheaper price and cheaper parts.
If my current XJ gets totalled, I'd get a used XJ. Although the diesel KJ is tempting.

My ex-wife would never asllow my kids in my TJ without the hardtop, so when I have them in the summer, I use the Liberty, and she loves bombong around in my TJ.
As far the Scrambler, I think thats possibly the
worst design I've ever seen from Jeep. Look up the old design, or take a cue from AEV conversions.
It looks like an old Model A Ford from the 20's with the ridiculous hardtop
