Autoweek.com is reporting that two new pre-production Jeeps will debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany next month. The Compass Raylle and Patriot will both be pre-production models expected to arrive in dealer showrooms in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
Update: 8/8/05 4:17 PM - DaimlerChrsyler has announced that the vehicles will debut at the Frankfurt International Auto Show on September 12.
Here's a snippet:
Jeep is set to unveil two new pre-production concepts at the Frankfurt auto show this September. Called Compass Rallye and Patriot, the vehicles will be based on the platform that underpins the Dodge Caliber and are slated for production in 2006 as 2007 models. Here's the entire article, including some artist renderings.
The Compass Rallye, below, is being billed as a soft-roader, new territory for Jeep. It was designed to appeal to buyers of vehicles such as the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Subaru Outback who would not normally consider the Jeep brand.
Jeep claims Compass will be a versatile vehicle with higher fuel economy than past Jeeps. Production of the Compass is scheduled to begin next summer.
Update: 8/8/05 4:17 PM - several other news organizations have picked up the story including The Detroit News and The Chicago Tribune.

![]() One thing that I can't figure out is that DCX paid for the Scout name by buying the name rights...
I'm sure that if they paid for it, they are going to use it. I would like to see a Scout in the lineup, mabye the Willys concept as a bare-bones, no frills, hardcore entry level Rubicon-capable off-roader |

![]() I get the feeling that the Compass Raylle is what they will call the SRT-4 version of the Compass, and that the base model would simply be called Compass. SRT (STREET racing technology) would actually need to be called DRRT (dirt road racing technology) for the Compass if it's to be a rally car. I guess DCX liked Raylle better and went with that; at least that's my guess.
It's really to bad they didn't go with DRRT, then you could just speak the acronym out by saying "dirt" ![]() |

![]() I believe the "Scout" name was an alternative to the Patriot name.
Also, I think what we will see as the Compass Rallye at the Frankfurt auto show will be what a Compass SRT-4 would look like. From spy shots we have seen that the regular Compass isn't quite as low slung and doesn't have the center driving / fog lights. If the sketches of the Patriot are true to what a production version would look like, the RAV-4 and C R V just became even more of a laughable joke. I am curious to know what the "all-new" four wheel drive technology in the Patriot would be that is mentioned in one of the articles. Especially curious because since this is supposed to be the cheapest Jeep, I don't think it could be a highly technical system like QuadraDrive II. |

![]() I suppose that trail rated will mean that the Patriot will perform better off road in all categories than the RAV-4, the CRV, and the Kia Sportage...
I still like the styling though, and it may still perform better off road in a different way... So, will the Compass be 'street rated' better than the Mitsu EVO, the WRX, and the Neon SRT? |

![]() I don't think the Liberty has anything to fear. It sits at significantly higher price point. It is more refined, more powerful, and will most likely still be more off-road capable than the Patriot or Compass. The folks at DCX are trying to expand the Jeep lineup to 7 or 8 vehicles from the current four.
It will be interesting to see how closely the production vehicles match these artist renderings. The spy shots we have seen of the Compass show that it probably won't be as low slung as the drawing. If the Patriot is Trail Rated then it will probably prove to be a low-cost vehicle capable of a lot of fun. And the real question is not which Jeep to buy, but how to get the money to get one of each. ![]() |

![]() Wow, perhaps we will finally get a Cherokee replacement! I hope DC, in their wisdom, provides the north americans with the same diesel options they do the europeans. With oil selling at an all time high, my next vehicle will be a manual tranny diesel -- if not Jeep then perhaps VW will bring its crossover vehicle to north america.

![]() The patriot looks like a better replacement for the cherokee than the liberty ever did.
DCX - Diesel engines are the way to go, with high gas prices and a possible federal tax rebate for diesel vehicle, you have a chance to beat the competition, take it! My next suv will be a diesel, and I want it to be a JEEP! |

![]() After looking at the Patriot, you must wonder were will this leave the Liberty in the lineup? This looks like it could replace the Liberty with the market they are going after but maybe the redesigned Liberty in a couple of years will become slotted in between a Grand Cherokee and Patriot. Of course then you will have your 4-door Rescue/Wrangler so there are going to be lots to choose from in the small to mid-size Jeep lineup. I think Jeep is going to kick butt in the next few years. The biggest problem I can see is which one to buy!
