Jeep is set to unveil two new pre-production concepts at the Frankfurt auto show this September. Called Compass Rallye and Patriot, the vehicles will be based on the platform that underpins the Dodge Caliber and are slated for production in 2006 as 2007 models.

The Compass Rallye, below, is being billed as a soft-roader, new territory for Jeep. It was designed to appeal to buyers of vehicles such as the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Subaru Outback who would not normally consider the Jeep brand.

Jeep claims Compass will be a versatile vehicle with higher fuel economy than past Jeeps. Production of the Compass is scheduled to begin next summer.
