Wrangler Sales Jump 53 Percent

Jeep Wrangler sales have their highest April ever.

Continuing the trend established with positive fourth quarter results for 2003 and first quarter 2004, Chrysler Group reported sales of 189,011 units for April 2004, an increase of 1 percent compared to April 2003 when 187,086 units were sold. Sales are calculated on a day-rate basis.

"Timing is everything," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales. "Our new product blitz is well timed with the economy that is showing continued improvement. Inflation remains at an historic low, the unemployment situation continues to improve and consumer's ability to buy remains positive. The time is right to purchase a new vehicle."

Jeep(R) brand sales continue their strong ascent by posting an 11 percent improvement to 38,677 units compared to April 2003 when 34,922 units were sold. The Jeep Wrangler posted sales of 9,001 units, a 53 percent increase over the 5,888 units sold in April 2003. Jeep Liberty achieved a sales increase of 12 percent, posting sales of 14,375 units. April 2003 sales for the Jeep Liberty were 12,845 units.

Without a lot of money on the hood, I think a lot of people are just going to wait for the new Grand. The Liberty seems to be percalating along... it will be interesting to see what the diesel engine does to demand across that nameplate...

The small monthly sales slump could also be due to the actual introduction of the 2005 model, people that would have bought one in April are instead waiting for the 2005 model to be released in the fall.

The Liberty was supposed to entice XJ owners which it has not - at least not to the satisfaction of D/C. So the Wrangler Unlimited is D/Cs latest hope of re-winning the hearts of us XJ owners. We'll see if this works. I beleive that the new Liberty Renegade will be another attempt to win the hearts of XJ owners.

With the regular Wrangler you expect this, since the vehicle is so small. I still would like to see a pickup truck variant (or do you prefer SUT) off of the Unlimited, but I doubt we will see it. I also wonder if the Unlimited will become a unique model like the CJ6 and CJ8 after the new TK comes out. I’ve never heard if Jeep plans to make both the SWB and LWB versions of the Wrangler with the replacement for the Wrangler in model year 2007.

I'd even settle for a 3-door. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the convertable is not really handy. If I did get an Unlimited, it'd have to be a 2-piece hard top or fully enclosed - like you said MalcomXJ.

	Originally posted by: comment i agree...people are waiting for the new grand, but they've got a few months to go - oct.! what a shame dc didn't boost production earlier, instead opting for a revamped durango which was newer that the gc, prior to it's revamping. jeepers & jeeper i think you may be misinformed about the $$$ dc is offering on the grand, less than the durango and their beloved mini van. ironically they offer a lot off the durango and their sales are up 100% ytd! whereas jeep sales are in the tank for most of the country. dc still seemed to be very slow in helping our jeeps! too bad they are waiting another year to add the 7 passenger...i don't get their thinking...but i'm still hoplding on!
