If you looked closely at the BLUETEC Grand Cherokee concept that was recently released you will notice some subtle design differences compared to the production WK.
The most notable is a redesigned front fascia that does away with the thin plastic apron found on the production model. Instead, the bumper has been made fuller and smoother which gives it a much more finished look.
As the Grand Cherokee is headed for a design refresh within the mid-2007 or 2008 model year, could this be a hint at where it is headed?
According to an official press release, DaimlerChrysler has pioneered a group-wide initiative for advanced clean diesel powertrains called BLUETEC. The technology will be capable of producing the cleanest diesel vehicles in the world and has the potential to meet the emission requirements in all 50 states. The Company is showing three BLUETEC concept vehicles this week at the Washington, D.C. Auto Show -- The Mercedes-Benz E320 BLUETEC, the Vision GL 320 BLUETEC and the Jeep Grand Cherokee BLUETEC.

![]() Here are 3 pictures of the '06 WK Models
http://www.thefreeimagehosting.com/Uploads/Images/476431637201006GCBluetec.jpg http://www.thefreeimagehosting.com/Uploads/Images/476434137201106GCLimited.jpg http://www.thefreeimagehosting.com/Uploads/Images/476435230951206GCSRT8.jpg I see some obvious differences to the bumper and you will also notice the side marker lamps, a nice touch, the painted mirrors and running boards. The rear bumper appears to be sculpted slightly differently as well as a slight change to the rear lens colors. Look like some nice updates. But.... Then with a quick search I came across this picture http://www.thefreeimagehosting.com/Uploads/Images/491845699701005Startech-GC.jpg and this site http://www.startech.de/homee.htm They are a European Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep customization and tuning shop. My guess is the body styling of the Bluetech is all show and custom detail to distinguish it from the pack, a sort of psuedo concept. I wouldn't get your hopes up for these changes as production updates. Besides the WK would have to lose its "Trail Rated" badge if they changed to this bumper. Where would the tow hooks go on that sucker? |

![]() But what about the Dynamic Handling System? Without it, the JGC has rather low skid-pad values and so doesn't corner as well as it should. I want the Diesel and DHS!!!

![]() The changes are subtle which is quite typical of a mid-model Jeep refresh which is why I was thinking this might be a hint of what may be planned for the WK. I think the change to the bumper gives the Grand Cherokee back it's more masculine look that was found in the WJ.
I would expect the 3.0L CRD to produce about the same horsepower as the 4.7L with torque numbers closer to the 5.7L. |

![]() I found some nice pictures on Rockcrawler...
http://www.rockcrawler.com/reviews/jeep/bluetec/grand_cherokee/index.asp I like the new front end touches. I had to look hard to find them. I also wonder what kind of performace to expect with a 3.0 diesel? |
