Meet Tugger, the newest Jeep - he's animated.
The Jeep Brand and Genesis Orlando have recently announced that Tugger the Jeep is coming to the big screen. From the press release:
Jeep® Brand and Genesis Orlando, a digital animation production company, entered into a licensing and marketing agreement on May 5, 2004, to launch the animated film property "Tugger, the Jeep® 4x4 who wanted to Fly".
The original Genesis Orlando story centers on an animated character modeled after a Jeep vehicle who dreams of one day flying like an airplane. The film is being released in connection with the official launch of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and will release around the time vehicles will be available in dealerships, Fall 2004.
“Tugger is a great asset to help launch the all-new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee,” said Jeff Bell, Vice president Jeep and Chrysler Marketing, “The animated character upholds the Jeep brands reputation for innovation and the go anywhere do anything spirit of the Jeep brand.”

I think the movie is a great idea and that it'll help pull away the now common thought that every SUV is a Jeep. How many people call their explorer or RAV 4 a Jeep? A lot. At least this brings some distinction, or helps. I remember hearing Alan Jackson's Drive for the first time and he talks about teaching his daughters how to drive an old Jeep. I was so pumped, it took me back to driving my Dad's CJ in Pennsylvania. Then the video comes out and shows them in an old Bronco. Jeeps are different than SUV's as all of us know, they are more capable, more distinct, and more fun. Jeep needs to take it's identity back.

This is excellent publicity done by the MARKETING team, not the DESIGN and ENGINEERING team. Now WHAT the design and engineering team has been doing lately is a completely different story, but obviously they haven't been making cartoons.
Jeep - For the love of God, bring back the SJ. (and make wood siding and option, please!) I love mine and couldn't live without it (well, I could live without the carb... use the 5.9 EFI from the 98 ZJ!)

Is this 6th gear going to be a highway overdrive?

YOu could use the Ford EEC with mass air from an 88-91 model, very easy to install, I installed it on my old Bronco and am working on installing it on the 4.9 Cadilliac V-8 in my brothers Fiero.
Any info on the 6 speed. I want one to replace my T-18

I noticed that Alan Jackson video. That probably had to do with the fact that Alan Jackson is/was a spokesman for Ford. When the video was made, I'm sure that it was insisted that he use a Bronco rather than a CJ.
That's too bad that a Wrangler SUT is not in the works. I'd get one if it was available. I need a small truck but there is not much out there in the small truck world anymore.

There are many rumors going around about the 2005 Wrangler and Unlimited. I did have someone tell me that the SUT version will be available to order come July. There was also mention of calling it the 'Scout'. I also had someone saying he was a Jeep employee was able to order a 2005 Unlimited with a RUBIcon package. Again, these are all rumors, so take them with a grain of salt.
I chatted with a couple of Jeep dealers, and they are all saying that come mid-June, they will be informed about what options/changes will be available for the 2005 model run. Looks like by summer we will know more details.

I also suspect the 6 speed manual is to help increase mileage since the Jeep line lacks any mileage champ to help offset the overall fleet mileage of the Jeep line.
