Jeep sales were down 21% in October compared with October, 2006 - Chrysler LLC says not to worry, the bulk of the losses were due to planned fleet reductions. They are quick to highlight the Wrangler's 8% gain.
The Wrangler was by far the only bright spot, as the Liberty, Grand Cherokee, and Commander were down 41%, 19%, and 67%, respectively. I'm wondering if "planned fleet reductions" are to blame for all three of these declines...

![]() Notice that the wrangler year to date sales are greater than the grand cherokee ytd sales. To my knowledge, This is the first time this has ever happened.

![]() How many Grand Cherokees and Commanders went to fleets? I can't imagine it's that large a number. Are we really to believe two thirds of the Commanders were going to fleet buyers?
These are indeed dismal numbers, especially when you throw in the Dakota, Durango, and, yes, the NEW Dodge Caravan. (The Chrysler version did well; Dodge sank badly.) Let's see what next month brings. |

![]() I just did a quick comparison on the jeep home page for the 2008 model year. Base liberty sport 4x4 = $22,600. Base 4 door wrangler unlimited X 4x4 = $23.240. With only a $640.00 difference in mind, I'll take a wild guess at a reason why Liberty sales are down 40%.
