Getting ready to put the front clip back on after paint.

Whats the safest (avoid scratching) and easiest order to put it back together?

Fenders first or grill first?

I had mine coming apart a lot over the past year and a half. I found it easier to put the fenders on, then the grill. Of course the last couple of times, I took them off as one piece (including radiator) and put them back on as that same one piece. But if you want to make sure that you do not scratch paint, I would put the fenders on first, but loose. That way they hang to the sides until you bolt the grill in.

IMO - really doesn't matter, just do what ever way you feel most comfortable.
I mount the grille and loosely attach the support rods first but everyone has their own style.

ditto what CJ said and don't be afraid to use lot of 2" masking tape around edges where the parts mate together. Nothing like having to fix scratches in new paint.Don't ask me how in know this....

Also, I use felt from old window seals as insulation between the fender and the grill as well as the fender and the body. Cuts down on the squeaking.

I've had fenders on and off several times. It seems easier to have a couple helpers and the grill on first. This allows both the front and the rear of the fender to be supported while mounting. With both ends supported you can move to the other side with the same technique. Sort of tighten everything up together a little at a time allowing minor adjustments as you go along. I had great difficulty making the body, fenders and grill line up properly. The grill was to high making a gap in the fender/tub joint. I hope you don't have the same trouble.

Thanks for the suggestions and experiances.

Think I am going to go with the grill on first. Still have to do the wiring and other things to do under the hood and don't want to have to lean over and on the fenders.

Ok. Here's the grill sitting on the frame. Sorry about the clicky stuff. Google Picasa changed their format and I have yet to figure it out.
