- 1975 CJ5, 258 (from 1971 J truck), T-14, Dana t/c, Dana 30 and Dana 44 axles.
So.. it's obvious by mostly water and mud with a little bit of oil in my front axle, the many chipped ring teeth.. along with the leaking pinion and horizontal side to side movement of the internals that the previous owner did little or nothing in the way of upkeep or preventative care.
Also obvious that I will be back inside it in the near future. But for now she's cleaned, now vented (hose and vent to come) and even has the (unnecessary but free) grad 8 bolts and washers upgrade on both covers. Heck, I might just swap in a newer 30 or upgrade to a matching 44.
But for a Sunday in the garage I learned what was lurking under those covers and took care of what I could for now.
Ps.. I also got a chance to see and verify the locker was in the rear as it was told to me at the time of purchasing this Jeep I named "Effy".
