Hey Guys,

So the drain plug on my CJ5 radiator is leaking very slowly. I tightened it down a bit, but it didn't make any difference. I'm worried about tightening it down too hard because its made of plastic, and could break. Any solutions on how I could stop the leak? Maybe take the plug out and replace it with a steel bolt?

Thanks!

Josh

Do you know what diameter and thread size would fit?

I'm not positive. I think it is just a standard 1/4". I just put in a new radiator and just grabbed one at the autoparts. I'll look tonight to see if I still have the package.

Would really suck if I got the wrong threat size, and it starts leaking again. Does anybody else know what the correct thread size is for the factory radiator drain plug?

Most radiator drain cocks are 1/4 pipe which has a 18 thread pitch. Mine is, but it's not a stock jeep radiator.

Just ordered this. Its 1/4 inch diameter, but not sure about the thread size. Only costs $2, so it's worth a try.

That should be fine. Mine is in a new radiator, but it is a 1/4” NPT. Dorman part number 61106
