Electrical jeep eating starter gears

What engine? On some AMC engines a worn wire ring on the end of the starter shaft could be letting the starter gear go in too far against the flywheel. Another possibility is whether your engine is missing the alignment one or both bushings between the tranny bell housing and the engine. They are located at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. Not very thick, but enough to throw off the bell housing alignment if they're missing.

Corroded wires to the starter, mainly it's power from the battery, can cause low voltage and not engage as smooth or strong as should, bellhousing alignment as mentioned, and finally, crappy starters, Chinese makes everything as the US has decided to make almost nothing, so look for a good quality starter or reman and listen for any unusual sounds when first installed as well during engagement, even pull the coil wire and listen to the starter a couple times.

I get it, I'm a Jeep owner and ad-block detectors kinda stink but ads are needed on this site. This is a CJ site, all the ads are set for autos (some times others get through.) I cannot make them just for Jeeps but I try.
