This is my first post and hello from central IL. Now for the question, I have a 1972 CJ5 with manual steering. The steering coupler was in pieces when I got it and I now have the replacement parts. The old one is off. The shaft is still on the jeep. How do I get the boot on the shaft? Does the pin at the end of the shaft where the bearings go come out? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes the pin can come out but is a bugger. A 3# maul will move it. A press would be better.

Do you really need to replace the boot?

Yes, the boot was destroyed. I was able to get it out with the old vise and socket technique. Went well but I wrestled it around for a while. Seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the help.

I get it, I'm a Jeep owner and ad-block detectors kinda stink but ads are needed on this site. This is a CJ site, all the ads are set for autos (some times others get through.) I cannot make them just for Jeeps but I try.
