Dana 30 ball joints knuckle rebuild

So after to evenings finally broke the ball joint buts loose. Now my question is do the split ring threaded ball joint inserts need to be loosened or removed before the ball joints will drop free? Been using a BFH and no luck.
Follow up, would be, and tricks to getting those split rings out, they look to be completely rusted in, I’m scared to even attempt.
