I just have a quick question, how do you lubricate a Dana 27 closed steering knuckle? And what type of lubricant should I use?

Thank you!

Search the CJ 3B Bulletin Board for "knuckle pudding". There are a number of things that will work for this and not leak through the wiper seals. Personally, I use a mix of Lubriplate 105 assembly grease and a little 140 gearlube, mixed so that it will be barely stiff at room temp. That has stood the time test for close to 50 years now.

You need something in there that is still fluid enough at operating temperature to lube the upper kingpin bearing-something that doesn't happen using chassis grease.

To fill, just remove the pipe plug on the back of the knuckle and fill to bottom of opening. Draining one is a little more problematic and depending on whats in there, may require some dissassembly to flush it out.
