Hi all, new to the forum. I have the chance to buy a 77 CJ7. The doors, tailgate, hood, front fenders and floor pan are rust free. There is rust behind all four wheels, but it is repairable. Both back sections of the frame are rusted. I see there are several places to get repair pieces for that. My issue is the frame in front of the rear wheels. It is rusted pretty bad. I've attached a pic. Is this worth repairing, or should I just look for one in better condition?

If I were me, and if I were determined to keep the Jeep for anything other than parts, I would be looking for another frame. While switching to the new frame I'd be looking hard at the body rust that I couldn't see. I believe there is likely to be considerably more rust in the body than is obvious right now. Please assure us that you are not continuing to drive this jeep with the frame as compromised as it is.

I would only buy it if I had a frame ready to swap. As HH infers, please do not drive that. I have parches my frame as much as I am comfortable and it is not that bad at all. Prepping the replacement frame now.

Are you a good welder/fab guy?
Is the selling price in th free-$700 range?
If you answered no to either question I would pass on this one.

With that much visible "cancer", I'd pass on purchase (unless it was danged near free).

Forget patching that frame. With that much visible rot, the rest of it ain't that far behind. I wouldn't expect the body to be much better unless it's had a tub transplant in the not so distant past.

If it's priced super low, it could definitely be considered a serious long term project. Hey, I had to end it on a positive note :D!

Quadratec sells replacement frame parts that you cut out the bad and weld in the new piece. Dropping the spring is the hardest part
