Hello,
My first post/question here. I am a first time Jeep owner and have a question about my heater.
It stopped working the other day and its cold here in upstate NY.

The Jeep has the 86 Blazer Blower motor in it I was told. I purchased it from the wife of a gentleman who had passed away. So I do not have a lot of info on it.

I am not a mechanic or have the first clue to Jeep wiring and this wiring is a mess.
Where should I start to look for the problem?

:ww: Welcome to the sickness...... you are doomed.LOL

Easiest to check would be the fuse. If it's not the fuse, check your ground - CJ's are notorious for bad grounds. If the ground is good, a multimeter would be of great help to see if you have current in the wiring harness at the blower motor. If you do, sounds like a dead motor. If not, trouble in the harness. Could also be the switch. The multimeter would help troubleshoot where you do and don't have current. Some if the guys will slap me for this, but even a cheapo multimeter will tell you what you need to know.

Now, let's see what the smart people tell you. Good luck, and keep updating with what you find. :chug:

Thank You SHUM8 I am sure I will have a good time.

When I said the wiring is a mess I really mean bad mess. A past owner had put lights all over it, inside and out. The person I bought it from had taken all of them out but left the wiring, he just cut them off.
The fuse box has wires coming off fuses and what I would call jumpers all over, it needs to be ripped out and re-wired but its my daily driver.

So long story short, its all most impossible to trace wires anywhere.

Sounds like you need a wiring diagram. Look up Prospero's Garage, on the net, they sell some great wiring diagrams for the CJ. Another thing that is key to stay warm is to have the proper thermostat in the engine.

Well, I would still see if I had anything hittin the motor to see if it's dead or not. As for the wiring - I'm in the process of putting my CJ back together, and in the box of stuff that came with it I found a nearly new interior wiring harness, so I will be using that one in the reassembly. You are welcome to the old one - it dirty and has a couple splices in it, but worked fine when removed. If you decide to replace the interior harness, and you would be interested in this one, let me know and I'll make you a SMOKIN deal on it. Or you could put a new one in.

Thermostat I replaced in the fall. The heater was working great until driving into work the other day. I had the heat on and then noticed it was getting cold, and the fan was not working.

:ww: :dbanana:

Shum8 has you on the 'rite' path. :notworthy:

I would suggest you find a local jeep (CJ) club in your area, and see if there is someone that could help you learn. Wiring issues are a real :censored: to sort out sometimes.

Sweet dude welcome aboard... many more adventures to go. Feel free to ask us questions and please provide pics we love Jeep Porn

Am I correct that the blazer blower motor has 2 wires, a hot and a ground.
If that is correct my hot wire has come off. I found a wire and when I test it with the fan on it is hot. It is broken off at the connector. only a little piece of it left.
Does the hot wire connect on to the blower motor on the inside of the firewall?

Looking on the net I see a few pages of Jeeps with a GM heater blower motor addition, you could refer to those. Anyway, I am going to suggest if you start attaching any wires together, you could do it with a jumper wire that has a fuse connected to it to protect anything from shorting out.

On mine, the hot is in the engine compartment on the bottom of the motor at about 5 o'clock.

I took out the battery and tried to see where that plugged in but could not find any place.
Searching the net to try and find a picture of where that plugs in at.

Here is a pic from under my Jeep
