Just picked up a 75 waggy with a 401 Looking to swap with the 258, is there anything to make this a easier/better swap? Its going in my 84 CJ8 with a T5, I know not the ideal transmission but that's what its working for now.

Thanks,

WELCOME :chug:
Bolt in swap. Put a 401 Interceptor in my sons CJ5 about 10 years ago.
Get another tranny! That T5 will not last 10 minutes with that engine.

You like your T-5, I say bolt her up to the 401 and drive like you stole it .... then look for a transmission that can stand the kind of power a 401 can produce. Then there are those axles to consider.

All valid points and on the list of eventualities. What about motor mounts?

Thanks,

NOT cheap-Worth every penny.
I have run'em for 15 yrs in my CJ.
Jeep Motor Mounts & "Bomb Proof" Motor Mounts from Mountain Off-Road Enterprises (M.O.R.E.)

I have no love for the OEM/POS mod 20 rear(why I put a Currie Ford 9" in).
I strongly recommend at the bare minimum, to install Moser 1 piece axles.
That 401 will put out more torque than that T5 was ever built to handle.
Very good tranny info here.

IMO-That T5 is your weakest 'link'-
BTW-What R&P ratio do you have? Most likely either 2:73 or 3:31 if they are still stock. Those ratios are T5 'killers' due to the torque load placed on the tranny.

You have to relocate the passenger side but that’s it. Cut the current one off the frame nicely and reuse it.

You might not need to cut, mine was bolted on in both my '80 and '75 CJ5s.

Thanks for the info folks!
