Jeep sales figures through the month of August for the U.S. have been released, and the news isn't good. Like most other automakers, Jeep has been hit fairly hard by a slumping U.S. economy with sales of both the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee showing double-digit declines when compared with last year's numbers. The all-new Liberty seems to be holding its own, with an increase of 896 Libertys sold in August when compared with July, 2001. Overall, the Jeep brand is down 14% when compared to last year.
