Grand CherokeeNew Year Means New Look for the Grand Cherokee
Posted by mike on 2003/1/2 23:00:00 (301) reads

DaimlerChrysler announces that the 2004 Grand Cherokee will have a slightly new look.

The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee debuts with a new appearance, expanded model line and unique features as this legendary 4x4 continues to set the standard for all other vehicles in its class.

The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a fresh look with a new front fascia, new grille and new fog lamp appearance for all models. Along with its new appearance, the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee gives customers even more options than before by expanding to four models: Laredo, the new Special Edition, Limited and Overland.

The new Special Edition model has the monochromatic exterior design cues of the Limited model. Four-wheel drive Special Edition models also include: fog lamps, Quadra Trac II® transfer case, AM/FM/Cassette/10 disc CD with Infinity® speakers and a Special Edition badge. A similar version is available in two-wheel drive with slightly different content.

In keeping with the Jeep brand’s "go-anywhere, do-anything" philosophy, the 2004 Grand Cherokee is offered with a new Navigation Radio for the first time from the factory. This new system combines a 4.9-inch full-color display, AM/FM Stereo, CD Player and navigation system that utilizes DVD technology all in one handy unit.

Also new on four-wheel drive Laredo models is the Quadra-Trac I® single-speed transfer case. A derivative of the award-winning Quadra-Trac II transfer case, Quadra-Trac I offers simplicity and convenience for those customers that do not take their vehicle off-road or tow heavy loads. There is no need to shift levers – Quadra Trac I will respond when there is a loss of traction. For 2004, Select-Trac® with low range remains standard on four-wheel drive Laredo models, while Quadra-Trac I is available as a no-charge option.

For 2004, all Grand Cherokee models are offered in two new exterior colors – Midnight Blue and Lava Red.

Who wants to make a bet that they give the Grand round headlights to unify the look of the brand? Considering Jeep's new logo emphasizes the round headlights and seven slot grill, I'll bet I'm correct.

Everything that I have heard is that the Quadra Drive 1 is a no cost option on the '04 Grand, you can still get the low range system. Get em while you can though because I'll bet the next generation Grand will lose that and the solid
axles.

See picture at wieck.com in the public image area. The 2004 has very small changes... same headlights, but round foglamps in a new bumper cover and what appears to be a larger grill. The side appear to be exactly the same, but no rear shots are available yet. The website also shows "Freedom" series Jeeps, which appear to be a Wrangler, Liberty and Grand with minor comestics for the "rescue ready" theme Jeep is now going for.

Odd, the only information from the LA Auto Show thus far is the following...

Jeep Grand Cherokee
Built at DaimlerChrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, the Grand Cherokee is the top of the Jeep line. For 2003, the Grand Cherokee features softer shocks for an improved ride, reduced brake pedal effort for shorter stopping and lower steering effort for greater maneuverability and easier parking.
