Although Chrysler Group hasn't officially debuted the 2008 Grand Cherokee (that'll happen this week in New York), plenty of news outlets have specs and photos...

While this is just a minor refresh, the biggest changes are under the hood with a total of 5 engine options from the standard 3.7L V6 through the 6.1L Hemi V8. New is the common-rail 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 and the twin-spark 4.7-liter V8.

![]() Let's see:
2004 GC = 20,382 / Wrangler = 4,573 2005 GC = 21,732 / Wrangler = 5,363 (Commander Debuts) ![]() 2006 GC = 12,853 / Wrangler = 8,623 (New Wrangler Debuts) ![]() 2007 GC = 10,397 / Wrangler = 13,397 (so far) (2008 New GC Debuts... any guesses on sales?) That's GC 65,364 / Wrangler 31,956... in just over 3 years? ![]() More than double the sales at 50% more in Price? Yeah I think it's pretty obvious who cares... BTW, after having owned 11 Jeeps including 5 different Wrangler predecessors, 4 different Cherokees and two Military Trucks NOT including the ZJ I'm currently driving with 210,000 miles and not a major overhaul or breakdown yet... I'd have to say that for daily driving (and still having the ability to crawl over, around or through 99% of what ANY Wrangler can do) with real A/C and virtually no wind noise while being able to tow more than a JetSki, the Grand Cherokee is exactly the vehicle that deserved the CRD in the first place! Don't get me wrong, I'll still have my TJ with 37's on the trailer when I get to Camp Jeep this year, but come on... why all the haters? ![]() |

![]() ...Crickets...
Does anybody care about the GC? There are people that love all incarnations of the CJ & Wrangler. There are XJ fanatics. There are even people that swear by KJ's. But the GC? I don't hear too many people talk about Jeepin' in their GC. A lot of sales execs drive GCs. Apart from the 3.0L CRD, which should be dropped into the JK, JKL, and KK, I don't see anything interesting here. Twin-spark V8? More like, "Twice the cost to replace your spark plugs after 100k." Just ask anyone with the 5.7 Hemi. $200 for the plugs alone. |
