Holly Norton of DelawareOnline.com doesn't care for Jeep owners much. In her latest column, she questions the rational behind "the Jeep wave":

Nobody likes to be left out.

Yes, I realize there are people in this world who like to be independent and free thinking and all things liberal. I'm one of those people.

But when there's a joke and I don't get it, I'm annoyed. The only thing worse than a joke I don't get is an inside joke that doesn't include me.

Inside jokes, hand signals, secret languages -- if I'm not in, I'm not down.

And what do I do when I'm excluded? I do what every other mature adult on the planet does.

I mock.

So, allow me to begin with a hand signal on the road that I have always been excluded from: The Jeep Wave.

Check out the entire column.

Well, I certainly wouldn't want to be seen dead in a car that drives like butter. Dead literally for that matter...

I'd suspect she's been bullied during school, and now takes to writing columns.

Feel sorry for her and her little world with a ToyMota in it...

Jeep on.....

So, with this article fresh in mind, who did I pull up next to at a stop light today, but a woman in a sweet-a$$ Rav4 . So I waved. She ignored me. Then, I honked and waved again, thinking she wasn't looking in my direction, behind her sunglasses. She replied with nothing, but this time looking right at me. So I wave once again. Then she flips me the bird.

Maybe Rav4 drivers are snotty and delusional. The woman who wrote the article being delusional for not appreciating the wonder that is the Jeep Wave.

I don't know why I try. Jeeps only for me, from now on.

What's this I say. Sweet-ass and Toyota Rav4 cannot participate in the same sentence, paragraph, book, or volume.

"It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand"

That can be read on my rear license plate frame, and obviously it fits you. Think about all those Harley riders that will not "wave" at you.
Same thing. Vette owners,,,,hmmmm,,,, uhh Hummers, uh, do you get the picture now.

When you're in your element, you know it. I don't expect the guy in the Escalade to wave at me in my jeep, nor would I criticize for that.
If I wanted one I'd get it, then he would wave,,,, maybe. But do I want an Escalade? Hail,,,, no.

So, get a Jeep, if you can't stand being passed up by my fellow Jeepers.

I think that she's picking one out of the crowd. When on my motorcycle, I get the left hand below the handlebars wave. Porsche owners have been known to flash their lights at each other.

It probably stems from choosing that sweet-@$$ ride of hers. Maybe she should start the RAV4 jump. (flashback to the old toyota commercials ~ohhh what a feeling...Toyota~) Every time she see's another RAV4 the owners should jump out of their moving vehicle.

Sometimes I'm in my commuter car (Hyundai Elantra) and wave out of habit. It's rarely returned yet I don't feel bad about that. Norton does completely ignore (or maybe isn't aware) that Jeep owners deny wave to fellow Jeepers depending on vehicle. Remember back when CJs wouldn't wave at YJs? I still don't think anyone waves at KJs even though KJs wave at everybody. I just hope someone doesn't break out the official wave chart.

For what it's worth, Ford owners are also selective wavers around these parts.

Totally. I don't wave when I'm in my XJ or my KJ. The KJ's all ruggeded-up with the renegade D package, but even still, neither it nor my XJ give me the right to wave. The wave is for CJ/YJ/TJ/JK drivers. I understand that. I don't wave at other Jeeps and I don't expect them to wave at me.

I have noticed, though, a growing comeraderie amongst KJ Renegade D owners. (The D has the light bar, tow hooks, rock rails, & skip plates.) When I see the rare KJ with a light bar, they tend to wave to me in mine. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I usually wave back, but I never initate it, because I'd feel like a poseur. I'm note in a "real jeep," and I know that.

Jeep ownership is like Fraternity membership...

I'm sure she meant no Ill will towards Jeepdom worldwide, but people like her don't belong because they just can't bring themselves to go with the flow.

In her mind, im sure that she is feeling rebellious by driving a RAV 4, practical, good mileage, decent in the snow, 7 passengers (By the way, I saw the JKL up close, and is it just me or is there just enough room in the back for a fold and tumble bench seat.....Hmmmm---Aftermarket, get on that)...

But I digress, blazing your own trail in a RAV 4 means that there is nobody to pull you out when you get High-Centered and your 4WIS and open differentials just cant hook it up...

So Join the Co-Ed Frat-orority of Jeepa Jumpa Crawla or quit sniveling.

What's funny is a I live in Delaware and I know this girl. She is a nice girl and she isn't an idiot, she just isn't in to cars one bit, I mean come on, she is touting the off road capabilities of her RAV4.

I sent her an email and directed her the www.delawareja.com the Delaware Jeep Association and invited her on a trail run to help her understand.

Its a cry for help in my opinion, she just needs a good reason to sell her RAV4 and buy a Jeep

I don't think this article meant any ill will. It was obviously done in good fun and humor. I can step out of my crazy "Jeep waving" self to laugh at us and what are perceived as strange customs by those outside the Jeep world.

But her RAV4 will always make me laugh more than any of her clever literary jabs at my beloved Jeep!

You know, I really don't see what there is in the way of offence to take at the article. There's a custom amongst Jeep owners of giving each other a friendly wave, and she clearly feels left out of the club by light of the fact that she drives a RAV-4. Understandable, really. Of course, she'd probably be the first to use her "spastically waving hands" in order to flag down a Jeep driver who could retrieve her vehicle from whatever it had got stuck in or on, but the irony's likely lost on her.

Offended? Nah. Amused? Certainly.

Don't be bad-mouthing Life is Good, homey.

If there's one thing I like more than Jeeps, it's LIG. They are outdoor enthusiasts -- just like Jeepers.
