A British couple recently took a stock Jeep Patriot and Compass on a trip across Europe for the "Jeep Fuel Economy Challenge". Their goal was to see how far they could make it on a single tank of fuel.
As far as I can tell, both cars were stock, and the test seems to be well documented. In the end, they were able to go over 1,000km from London to Poland on a single tank! In the end, the Patriot made over 67MPG while the Compass made over 66MPG.
This is pretty amazing, even if they were coasting half the time...

![]() What you are NOT being told is they do alot of coasting on hills with the engine off. Also they drafted each other throughout the test. I do think the MPG is impressive but the majority of people would not drive this way. Im thinking if they could do this with a diesel engine why not couple that with a hybrid system using batteries....then you may be able to come close to the MPG without all the coasting and shutting off the engine etc....

![]() And people wonder why we ask for a diesel? It's great, low end torque, better fuel economy?
How can we lose? Oh yeah.....the freaking EPA? |

![]() Is that US gallons or Imperial gallons?
Either way, bring the damn diesel engines to the US, pair it up with a hybrid / lithium ion or zinc air battery system ... I will buy one as my daily driver. |
