2000 Jeeps Available in August
We've heard from a number of sources indicating that shipments for 2000 model Jeeps will be starting in the next few weeks. We also spotted the following message on the rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys newsgroup:
Just spoke to my dealer regarding my 2000 TJ. He told me that my order has been moved up. He asked me if I called D-C [DaimlerChrylser] to expedite my order. I said " Well I did call, but I didn't know I can expedite the order thru the phone." He told me it was done all the time. Did anyone know about this, or my dealer is pulling a fast one. As I remember, when I called D-C [DaimlerChrylser] customer service, the guy (good guy) told me my TJ will be built in the 2nd week of August, he then said it seems that you are very concern[ed] about the wrangler you ordered. I told him I want the Jeep as soon as possible or at least before the school starts in Sept. He did not comment on my remark. but he gave me my TJ's vin #. As I found out from my dealer, it is scheduled to ship on August 6th. Hmmm, I don't know what this means. But for those waiting for their Jeeps, I guess it doesn't hurt to call. This is the number I use 800-992-1997, you need your vehicle order number (VON).
1991-1995 Jeep 4.0L Lawsuit Info
We're looking for information on the progress of the class action lawsuit filed in June regarding 1991-1995 Jeep models with 4.0L engines.
This lawsuit alleges that 1991-1995 model year 4.0 liter Jeep engines have a defect that causes unusually strong impacts of the pistons to the walls of the cylinders. The lawsuit further alleges that the impacts caused by the defect produce a diesel-like knocking noise which is itself a product defect. The lawsuit further alleges that Chrysler has acknowledged the noise and has labeled it "idle knock" or "diesel noise", but has refused or been unable to fix the problem.
