WranglerMore info on 2007 Wrangler Unveiling
Posted by ScramblerKen on 2005/12/5 7:47:30 (8489) reads

The Car Connection has some info regarding the Detroit Auto Show. The article mentions the showing of the 2007 Wrangler, but acording to the article, the new Wrangler will be launched outside Cobo Hall. It appears DC will be setting up a 'Camp Jeep' like setup outside. Sounds like a great way to introduce the next branch in the Wrangler legacy.

For those still hoping for a pickup truck derivative or the V-8, based on the article, those might happen a year or so after the 2007 model run. Jeep is also expected to show off a production version of the Jeep Compass.

The next gen Wrangler is the JK, not the TK. There's been a lot of rumors pointing toward a Gladiator truck around '08 or '09, but nothing's set for sure yet. Also no diesel or V8 any time in the near future.

No that is wrong there is no JK or anything else.
The code name was and is TK!

This is from http://www.allpar.com/forums/index.php?s=566491f2b594c68aae71d5b80645e732&showtopic=67013&st=0

Code …… Year .………. SOP .……….. EOP ……… Vehicle
TK ……… 2007 ………… 07-06 ……… 07-07....Wrangler1
TK ……… 2007 ………… 08-06 ……… 07-07....Wrangler2
TK ……… 2007 ………… 09-06 ……… 07-07....Wrangler3

"Code" = "Vehicle Body Code"
"Year" = "Vehicle Model Year"
"SOP" = "Start of Production" ("MM/YY" as in 07-06= July 2006)
"EOP" = "End of Production" ("MM/YY" (as in 07-06= July 2006)

So what are they THREE Wranglers????
2 door, 4 door, and pickup?

Wrong JP magazine is correct on it being the JK. At least the 2dr is listed as the JK since that is all they have released so far. Straight from the press information. You will see at the top they are listed as JK.

The JK - that's what I've read as well - the TK is an internal designation.

Hey, I'm all for speculation on the third TK. I'm guessing that Jeep heard about the interest in the Gladiator and plan on producing it. We know about the 2-door and the 4-door, so a pick-up truck makes sense. Plus, they were considering building the Scrambler again a while back.

JK doesn't make a lot of sense for the name of it. Look at all of the others: The New Grand Cherokee went from WJ to WK. The Commander (essentially a Cherokee on steroids) is the XK, while the Cherokee is the XJ.

Afterall, TJ, YJ, XJ, WJ and so on and so forth is an internal designation. They have consumer names that people go by.

 Re: More info on 2007 Wrangler Unveiling
Remember it's simply a model designation - to the general public the name for the current Jeep is “Wrangler”; TJ and YJ have absolutely no meaning to them. Personally, I love the new model to be called the Cherokee!

 Re: More info on 2007 Wrangler Unveiling
I have seen plenty of articles indicating both TK and JK, but one interesting thought...
Since the 4-door will be the biggest Wrangler ever - couldn't JK stand for Jeep Kaiser to differentiate it from the traditional 2-door Wrangler? Just a thought.
I'd pay the difference to get the CRD, even if I have to do it myself.

The new wrangler is identical as the jeep gladiator concept inside and out, there are enough spy photos of the inside and outside to verify this. I think you will see the 2.8 crd way before a v8 shows in the 4 door version. You will see the gladiator in 2008-2009 production based on inside info. The rubicon version will be worth ditching a tj for...33" tires, eaton lockers, better ground clearence..factory warn winch and the obvious..more room!!! The only downer is the larger width, my 2005 unlimited with 37" tires fits on most trails in AZ, at times 6 more inches would mean turning back or az pin stripes!!!

 Re: More info on 2007 Wrangler Unveiling
It's about time we get to see some factory sponsored images and action on this new Wrangler.

It's sad that we have to wait a year (or more) for the Gladiator intro. hopefully we'll start seeing some images of the proposed final Galdiator version soon after the Wrangler makes its debut.

It is still not definite that the 'Gladiator' will see the light of day. I think DC is going to wait and see how well the new Wrangler does, and how profitable this new setup is with having the suppliers as major players in building the product. I still would not be surprised that the pickup truck (Gladiator) does not show up until mid-life for the TK Wrangler. I'm still hoping we will see it much sooner, but only time will tell.
