As expected, a diesel Wrangler Unlimited has shown up at SEMA as a custom vehicle. Built by Jeep Truck Engineering-Design Aid Build Shops (is that all one place, or is it "Jeep Truck Engineering" along with various "Design Aid Build Shops"? We aren't sure). The vehicle has a 3.0L Common Rail Diesel that provides 230 horsepower and 390 lbs-ft. of torque at 2,800 rpm. Chrysler Group's media-only blog posted these photos and this description:
Takes the already off-road benchmark Jeep Wrangler to a whole new level. Built by a team of dedicated Jeep enthusiasts, this Wrangler represents the best of the best of what Jeep has to offer.
The interior features custom Katzkin leather seating with GPS navigation and satellite radio.
Plenty of power and traction with the new 3.0L CRD diesel under the hood and the incredible Tru-Lok-equipped Dana 44 axles underneath. Performance suspension lift allows clearance for 35-inch BFG Mud Terrain tires mounted on Custom 18-inch aluminum wheels supplied by Taneisya.
The exterior features a Warn 9.5ti winch mounted on American Expedition Vehicles new front bumper. A full-size spare is carried by our new Mopar performance rear bumper. And it looks like a billion bucks – sprayed in a rich Rolex Silver paint.

![]() Aren't they are making 2.8L CRD's 2007 Unlimiteds right on the line ? Is this a VM 3.0L (seen in europe) or a new DC 3.0L Bluetec which will be seen in 07 Mercedes and Jeep GC's?
Seems silly to got hrough all the trouble to swap out motors. I'd rather have a tried and tested VM CRD than a new Mercedes Bluetec when I'm offriding 100miles into nowhere. |

![]() This is the REAL DEAL. Jeep should be building this and not the Compass, Patriot, or Liberty.

![]() Getting real tired of jeep showing diesels and not building them. Whats the problem. I have two requirements where I live, 4 wheel drive and good mileage. The other day I actually considered a VW jetta. The only nod to mileage made by jeep was the liberty crd but that barely tops 25mpg. Hello dcx. Put some of your diesel tech to use. Quite showing us "look what we can do" rigs and production some for the rest of us. Ive owned wranglers and the wife is currently in a liberty. My truck needs to get replaced but apparently Canada is a export country and I cant get the diesel wrangler. I think Calif should rethink its emmisson laws so the rest of us can burn less fuel and keep more money. Later ELM

![]() In my best Dr. Evil voice w/pinky:
"One Meellion Dollars!...Mua Hah aha HA" Actually, here is a Jalopnik link that has the CRD Wrangler in the background. Not much content regarding it tho' http://tristanp.jalopnik.com/cars/sema/semature-ejaculation-werts-exclusive-interview-with-chrysler-design-guru-ralph-gilles-211118.php This is the ultimate stock (almost) Jeep. Seriously the CRD Rubicon is a natural and puts the Unlimited in the class of Rover Defenders and H1 Alpha and Unimog for worldwide best 4x4! Even without the 35" tires and Katzkins leather. I've seen many diesel SUVs overseas and the only question is: Will Jeep be able to build enough to keep up with demand? |

![]() Unfortunately, I doubt we will see the new Wrangler get a deisel any time soon. However, you can bet that AEV will be building it. They already offer the Hemi so I doubt it would be a big problem for them to take the deisel out of the Grand Cherokee and put it in the Wrangler. You can bet it would be very expensive though.

![]() Listen up DCX, Launch the 3.0 CRD Rubicon with ULSD and Bluetech. Ill gladly pay more for the fuel, Urea, and Diesel engine surcharge. The CRD Rubicon will get at least 25mpg and 50 percent more power than the Minivan 3.8L. I own a 02 TJ that sits in the garage rusting and a 05 Libby CRD that does it all for my family.
32k for a gas Rubicon, forget about it. 37k for diesel Rubicon, Sign Me Up!!!!!!! |
