We're usually not so infatuated with after-market modifications to stock Jeeps, but for some reason, we really dig EarthRoamer's XV-JP - a 2007 Wrangler that's also a camper. The guys at EarthRoamer just released a bunch of new photos, including this one:

![]() --sigh--
It's clear from the images that this is a permanent change... Oh well. It'd be interesting for a bed-only shell to be available. And the handle-less half doors and tall rear door... I could do some interesting layout conversions with an extended two-door shell (Unlimited length) and shaved doors for the side designed to provide a side for an extended cargo area. Hmmm.... dyg |

![]() I like it, but the last price quote I saw for this was $100K. That's obviously pretty steep. So, unless you've got National Geographic footin' the bill, it's out of the question for most.
![]() I wonder how close someone could get to this using camper/RV parts from a JC Whitney & Cabelas catalog? ![]() Let's see, you could get a toidy, a microwave, a fridge and a sink/portable shower, and even a portable generator, all for a couple K. There's several pop-out-the-back Jeep tents available (even 1 from Jeep.com, I think). Now, rearrange the seating in the back and do some rudimentary fiberglass/metal work (or simply chop & modify a new camper top for a pickup) and voila! ![]() I'm thinking an extra $10-15K on top of a loaded $35K Rubicon JKL (that's HALF of that $100K) and a few weekends, and you'd have most of this licked. Jp Magazine... Oh, Cappaman! Are you listening? ![]() |

![]() Wow, from the outside it doesn't really look like there would be that much interior living space - these guys are good.
I think the the rear bench seats are a bit high (obviously better for storage) and with the low-back seats I imagine it would be a rough ride down the Rubicon. I do beleive it would get 4 people there and support them well overnight. I'm especially impressed that they retained the roll-cage. That must have taken a fair bit of time & effort. |
