Wrangler sales continue to be the only bright star in the monthly Jeep sales report. Liberty, Grand Cherokee, and Commander all posted double-digit percentage drops in February.

Chrysler Group reported sales for February 2007 of 174,506 units; down 8 percent compared to February 2006 with 190,367 units. All sales figures are reported unadjusted.

"In a generally soft market environment in February, the Chrysler Group had good traffic and solid customer interest especially for our newly launched, fuel efficient models like the Dodge Avenger, Dodge Caliber and Jeep(R) Compass. Also, the Jeep Wrangler had its best February ever," said Steven Landry, Vice President - Sales and Field Operations, Chrysler Group.

The Dodge Avenger posted sales of 5,205 units. The vehicle is one of the Chrysler Group's five new models that achieve 30 miles per gallon or better in highway driving.

Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited continued to post strong sales in February with 9,240 units, a rise of 63 percent over February 2006 sales of 5,673 units. February 2007 marks the best month of February in the history of the Jeep Wrangler.

Sales of the Jeep Compass increased 3 percent over the previous month with 4,071 units compared to 3,965 units in January 2007.

DCX Listen Up, The wrangler will sell like no tomorrow if you put the Bluetech CRD on a Rubicon with a Six Speed. i own a Liberty CRD and will not pull the trigger on a JKL CRD unless it has a manual tranny. You screwed up with the Liberty CRD, failed torque converters, blown rears, ect trying to mate a diesel to a weak drivetrain. Find a strong Stick tranny and mate it to any diesel out there.

Is it any doubt? It's a brand new body style for the JK. I'd be curious to see how the JK vs TJ sales numbers relate to the TJ vs YJ numbers. I would think that you would see a relatively similar trend moving to a new body style. Also, they have added the Wrangler Unlimited in the mix.

When I spoke to my sales guy, he told me that the 4 dr's are HOT and they can hardly keep them in stock. He told me that good used XJs are really rad to find and customers that are looking for an XJ are snagging up the 4drs. I know that if I have another child, a 4 dr will be my next purchase. Hopefully by then the 3.0L Bluetec will be offered (TAKE THE HINT DCX...the Blutec should meet all the EPA restrictions)

You might be correct on the Tj vs Yj numbers however i think the new JK is catching more families. I have a TJL I love but the wife wants the new JKL and all the 4 doors ive seen so far have entire families riding around. I really think most people have always wanted a wrangler but it was not to practical for everyday use until now.

The better road manners, size make it much more useable and comfortable. The one 4 door i sat in a few weeks ago was leaps and bound ahead in cabin space. I just think the JK has a broader apeal and is why its selling so well, just hope we dont continue to see rising fuel prices which are slowing most suv sales. In a year or so i'll be moving up to the 4door JK right now they are selling over sticker by my home....if only Jeep Warehouse was closer i would just order and pick it up....
