It's probably not a surprise, but in the March 2009 Four Wheeler magazine in the Letters to the editor section they had a reply from the editor stating the current state of the JT pickup. The editor stated, "Sorry to say, in recent months we've gotten word from reliable sources inside of Chrysler that the project has been shelved for the time being." We all probably knew this, but here is documented proof from a reliable source.
With economic hard times, Jeep will likely have very little in the way of new products for the next few years (other than the 2011 Grand Cherokee). Hopefully Jeep will reconsider the JT in the future, even if it is like the LJ (2-door unlimited) to just get something new into the showrooms.

![]() Wouldn't this be the second time this has happened? I remember hearing this same story like three or four years back. Such a shame really. Dodge keeps selling the Dakota which is extremely long in the tooth, it seems like a Jeep truck could revitalize sales in that market for Chrysler. It looks like a missed opportunity for them in a big way.

![]() I've seen it, and yes, you CAN make a JT pickup...What we really need is just a 2 door LWB JT, the pickup would look kinda goofy with 2 useless doors in the pickup bed.

![]() Chrysler signed on with (ZF I think) for their 6 speed automatic transmission, called the 68RFE, we should see it later this year in the pickups... I wouldn't expect to see it in the Wrangler though, for some reason, the Wrangler only gets 2/3 the speeds of their manual counterparts...(5M/3A), (6M/4A), We can expect a 6 spd Auto in a Wrangler when somebody dreams up a 9 spd Manual.

![]() Oh well...I guess that is more business for AEV JK Brute...really just need a rear door closeout kit (armor plating works just fine for me), a 2 door hardtop (which somebody already makes too) and a rear cab cloesout kit, some white rims and some beige paint...
I think Burnsville offroad will build one for you if you have to have one THATbad. I think an 'LK' Scrambler makes more sense businesswise because of the flexible seating...but there is interest and a market for a 2 door, 2 seat JT pickup, I think AEV can do it without stretching the frame of the 4-door. Right now, Jeep needs to concentrate on improving efficiency without sacrificing off road capability, that means cylinder de-activation, start-stop capability, 6 speed manual AND automatic transmissions. I know they are concentrating on the JEEP EV as a range extended electric, but I think they can acomplish the same task by sandwiching the electric motor between the engine and the transmission (that is what Porsche is doing on the Cayene Hybrid) or even better, routing electric power to the mainshaft of the trans through some type of (reverse input) PTO port, while the engine is in stop-start mode, the electric motor can propel the vehicle up to a certain speed, and THEN the engine can turn on. |

![]() I'll say it... People that want it Can get used TJ and a Brute Kit for nearly the same $ as a New JT. I would love to see the JT make it to production, but we all kind of knew it when the Renegade concept went nowhere. I'd lone to say that I'd buy one, but with CAFE, they'll push thru the Patriot EV + the JK-EV and make a lot of people happy. including the lefties in office that one the Sierra Club
