Jeep workers in Toledo may strike on September 14.
From the Ohio News Network:
Union workers at Toledo's Jeep plant have authorized negotiators to call a strike if their contract isn't settled by September 14th.
Ninety-six percent of those voting approved the measure Thursday.
Workers could stay on the job past the deadline if negotiations continue.
The Jeep plant has 4,200 workers and is the largest industrial employer in the Toledo area.
Then plant is one of the only DaimlerChrysler plants not covered by the national UAW agreement, which also expires September 14th.
Thursday’s vote doesn't necessarily mean there will be a strike. Workers could stay on the job past the deadline if negotiations continue.
A spokesman for DaimlerChrysler declined comment.
