The link "prototype 8-seater unlimited" mentions "currently equipped with a 4-litre petrol engine and from next year with a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel". Maybe my dream JEEP, a diesel, 6-speed manual, Unlimited, will become a reality. I'd still keep my TJ for wheelin, and use the diesel Unlimited for hauling my boat and stuff. Way cool!

To the writer of the Forbes article, "It's a Jeep Thing... You Wouldn't Understand!"

While the Jeep excels at off-roading... its legendary capabilities extend to snow-covered roads, or desert roads rutted deep from flash-flooding. The writer must keep in mind that not-everyone lives on some city street. Many (millions) of Americans live in rural areas that may not see prompt road repairs. The Jeep vehicles are designed to handle those rough-road conditions.

It is amusing every year when a snow storm hits even a metropolitan area like Washington, DC. Immediately calls go out to owners of 4 wheel drive vehicles to volunteer driving doctors, nurses, and patients to and from the hospital. Most of those responding are owners of Jeeps or more truck-like SUVs. You do not usually find RAV4 and
-V owners responding to those calls.

Besides its legendary off-road capability, and rough road dependability, some of us just love it's heritage. 60+ Years of transporting America's troops, rescuing stranded people, conquering the road less traveled.

It's spelled Build, not Bulid.

If the rescue is going to have IFS, IRS, full-time all wheel drive ala suburu, then what's the point of building it?

Isn't one bloated, useless, hugely overpriced, laughingstock of an offroad-incapable POS styling exercise like the Hummer enough to satisfy the "more money than brains" crowd?

The Rescue, God what a piece of crap it's shaping up to be. Why not build a vehicle with some real qualities to it like the Dakar instead.

Yeah the "Unlimited" Jeeps are piling up around here also...but you know?..When these Jeeps are going for $25k or more..What do you expect?..Jeeps(and most other vehicles) are really WAY overpriced........That "Unlimited" sure looks WAY out of proportion..Dunno I'll keep my '95 YJ...LOL

and for those looking for the dakar, try the liberty. that's the

(*) ) I know 'cus here in New England I am responsible for Bringing some employees to and from work with mine! And I'm glad to announce that today...Another member of my family has joined "OUR" family..my aunt is the happy owner of a new '04 Liberty..Now 4 Jeeps in our family..all former GM owners..no less..When they build 'em this good..It's no wonder that JEEPS indeed RULE the world......

Why did this twink from Forbes even bother reviewing the Unlimited? He probably drives a little RAV4! What a weenie! Some people just don't understand tradition and proven technology. The people that read Forbes wouldn't even think of driving anything that wasn't top rated by Comsumer Reports, have 400 airbags and cost $40k + anyway, why waste their time printing a review of a Jeep in the first place.

BTW: Forbes helped sponsor Camp Jeep 2001, i have the free yellow lunchbox sitting right in front of me with FORBES on it. You would think they would give a better review that that, guess they don't like Jeep anymore.

Are unlimited sales not doing well? I see dealers with every color on the lot day after day after day.....Maybe it not popular like the traditional wrangler.......

Independant suspension is not inherently bad. The Hummer H1, albeit large, is a very off-road capable vehicle and uses fully independant suspension. The H2 is NOT fully independant. It has a solid rear axle.

The Jeep Liberty has independant front suspension and has not had any problem holding its own off-road. While the Liberty may not suit everyone's styling tastes it still is a very capable Jeep 4x4.

The new Grand Cherokee also will use IFS. We have yet to see how well it performs off-road.

The biggest problem with independant suspensions is that very few choices exist when it comes to doing a suspension lift.

I think what the "rescue" post is saying is simple.....DCX KEEP the JEEP>>>>> JEEP...I know; what a novel idea
