CompassMiniTruckin' Compass Review

MiniTruckin.com just posted their review of the Jeep Compass:

If Jeep is indeed interested in courting enthusiasts with the Compass, the perfect way to do it would be with an SRT version. We could envision an all-wheel drive Compass SRT with the Caliber SRT's 300-horsepower turbocharged engine mated to a reponsive six-speed manual. In terms of styling, the aggressive styling cues showcased on the pre-production Compass concept vehicle would perfectly complement its more purposeful mission. Voila! An American alternative to the WRX wagon!

As it currently stands, however, the Compass merely represents a "brand extension" for Jeep. It's a competent, practical entry into the compact crossover segment. But it's not going to revolutionize the market, or burst onto the scene with great fanfare. Urban dwellers with a propensity for purchasing, or that have pets, will likely find the Compass an attractive option for their lifestyle. But until the responses are tightened up, the styling accentuated with slightly more aggressive cues, and a little more firepower stuffed under the hood, the Compass is not likely to register on many enthusiasts' radar screens.

Check out the entire review.

Yuk yuk yuk - ugly car. Why does jeep have to make so many unnecessary cars? Is it purely a publicity stunt? Are they trying to become like Toyota?

The commander is the only jeep i'd welcome to the clan, but no more.

I like the look of the 2002 Compass Concept more than this thing. Had they kept that look, I would have been more interested in driving one.

The concept compass most likely will be the srt-4, the vehicle will do well because of the gas milege

On another forum they posted the sticker for a "feature rich" model at $26,300. With a price like that, these have definitely missed their mark.

Am I off here or isn't the most obvious problem the look of this vehicle? They've arrived in dealerships here in Vancouver a few days ago and I stopped in for a closer look... the back, the sides, well done.. but that front clip is nothing short of awkward. I just don't think its going to catch on. It has all the front end charm and style of the Pontiac Aztec.

If they went back to a bumper more like the one shown at Frankfurt and if they ditched the silly "hidden" rear door handles it would be a step or two in the right direction.

It's not the best looking Jeep, but I assure you it's no Pontiac Aztek, either!

These people who are bashing the Compass are probably the same ones who bashed the Commander's looks.

You can tell a Compass is a Jeep; whereas, you're not sure if the Aztec resembled a wart on wheels or not.

Actually, I think the Commander is butt-ugly. It's a behemoth. I don't really like any SUV that size.

No, I bought a Commander and love the way it looks. The Compass is hideous. It's fairly capable for it's size and price, but I can't get over the looks. I'll sit tight for the Patriot if I need a vehicle that size.

 Re: MiniTruckin' Compass Review
When the Beetle was introduced in the USA ,it was ridiculed as ugly, uncomfortable, underpowered and all the other negatives that we see being applied to the Compass by Jeepheads.

The Compass is what it is, Some will hate it, some will love it .and it just may sell like a Beetle.

The only negative I can think of is that it is all but impossible to find one to buy.
