Grand Cherokee2011 Grand Cherokee Shown in Bailout Plan?
Posted by davert on 2009/2/18 6:54:27 (1077) reads

Did Chrysler just tip its hand on the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee by showing a photo (or a really good rendering) in the ginormous report it submitted to the federal government?

As part of the bailout deal, both GM and Chrysler were required to submit a viability report to the U.S. Government yesterday - buried deep on page 131 of 177 was what appears to be a photo of the upcoming vehicle - complete with very professional infomercial graphics ("but don't order yet!")

If you got a few hours to spare, you can check out the entire report yourself.

Thanks to snakesausa and Dave from allpar for giving us a heads-up.

I like it...If you look close they extended the wheelbase without over-extending the overall length to make room for the third row.

If you look ar GM...They have the Acadia which holds 8 passengers...the same as a Suburban, only in a much smaller and more efficient package.

Let's face it...Why should Jeep have a Cherokee that only holds 5 passengers when they have a Liberty which holds...5 passengers

If that is what it looks like I don't hate it. I do wonder how big it is conpared to the current Grand. Was this not suppose to be bigger with a third row seat to replace the Commander.

Did anyone else notice that on page 135 on the maps of cars that it said "A" Jeep 2wd/4wd, which would be Fiat Based? It also advertised 38 mpg. Could this be the Compass we have been waiting for to compete with Subaru?

The front looks similar to the Trailhawk concept vehicle.

I will need to see more photos to decide what I really think about the design. However, I like the front design better than the WK. It looks more like a more aggressive WJ. The interior -- from the small photo provided -- looks quite luxurious.

I am disappointed that the pictures on all par say 21 - 25mpg. I was hoping to see an EV option alongside the traditional powerplants.

I also find the picture of the Durango in the report interesting since Detroit Free Press reported that the Durango, Aspen, and PT Cruiser are being killed and Detroit News is reporting that it will be refreshed but killed within the same paragraph : http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090217/AUTO01/902170422

Considering that the Durango and a Chrysler brand variant were all to be built off the new JGC platform, I personally highly doubt that the Durango has been killed off. I think they'll need the additional sales from the Dodge version to recoup costs on the platform's development.

Personally, I LOVE that new front end.

Actually if you go back and look at the Trailhawk Concept again, it really doesn't look like it, at all, other than being the same color.

I disagree. The new Grand Cherokee definitely shows influences of the Trailhawk Concept. Then again, you have to look at it.

I still don't really see it personally. The Trailhawk has prominent chiseled fenders, like prior GCs on steroids, while the render above has smooth GM-esque fender bulges. The Trailhawk looks ripped, the render looks flabby in comparison.

The Trailhawk also has full-height headlight assemblies, while the render has more squinty eyes. I do think the headlights on the render are far better than the Neon/Liberty'ish bug-eyed headlights on the WK, but they don't make me thing, "Trailhawk Concept".

". . . . looks similar to the Trailhawk . . . ." He didn't imply that it looked exactly like the Trailhawk.

The key words here are "Looks Similar". The first thing I thought of when I saw the GC was the Trailhawk Concept.

I'd like to see larger photos or a real vehicle before I give any opinions on this. I'm not big on making the GC bigger; I like the size of our 03 WJ.

I wonder if the lower portion of the front fascia is removable for increased off-road capability? On the current gen GC,it is, and it looks like this one might be removable.
