We've raided the DaimlerChrysler archives once again to bring you this advertisement for the "Jeep":

The text from the ad reads as follows:

Upper Right: When the going is tough, when you have a heavy load to pull, the Universal "Jeep's" 4-wheel drive puts amazing tractive power at your command. That's why the "Jeep" can haul supplies through mud and snow ... take workers across roadless countrysides ... pull almost any farm implement. The front drive-axle of the "Jeep" is a "business end" that broadens the utility of this versatile vehicle for industry and the farm.

Lower Left: On the highway and around town, you drop back to conventional 2-wheel drive to save on the economy of the world-famous Willys-Overland "Jeep" Engine. And if you have belt- or shaft-driven equipment to operate, the power take-off on the rear makes your "Jeep" a mobile power unit. Your Willys-Overland dealer can show you why this Universal "Jeep," with its two business ends, can do more jobs for you at a lower cost.

One more thing. I recieved an interesting item in the mail today from Jeep.
If I test drive a Liberty before Nov. 30 I can get the enclosed certificate endorsed by the dealer for $50.00 in service or accessories. I'am thinking tow
hooks or maybe skid plates for my XJ. If they were to keep sending me these
I could really outfit my XJ for that Jamboree I want to do next summer. Keep
em comming, Deiter.

Yes, these ads are very cool to look at. Makes you feel a bit nostalgic.

My first Jeep was a 1978 CJ7 with an automatic transmission and full time awd. It was black....fixed up nice for the bush....and had these big Mad Dawg tires....haha. I traded my 81 Honda Prelude for it in 1986....and I just loved it.

I never used it off road, but I was doing a lot of windsurfing at the time, and it was a cool looking rig with all my boards on it. It saw a lot of sunny days, and sandy beach for sure. Funny thing is....I had it till 1994 and I never took any pictures of it....too bad.

It's funny how the use for a Jeep has changed... From running farm equipment (PTO), hauling equipment, and general utility use to leather clad yuppie mobiles that hardly even haul a pile of firewood! Times are changing yes, but for the better.... that is yet to be seen??

I am familiar with the Jeep News magazine Craig and the article you mentioned
was very interesting. Being 48 years old I wonder what kind of Jeep collectibles I had as a child. The only things I collect today are ads and some
die-cast models, but I do it because I enjoy it, not in hopes of making any money.
Maybe my son will be able to make a few bucks from that stuff when I'am gone.
Of course he got a long while to wait, what with genetic engineering and modern
drugs and cloning I figure I got about 50 more jeepin years left in me.

To XJKen: I also loved the old Jeep ads in the new "Jeep Provisions" catalog. Selling them is a great idea. I bought a couple items from the catalog, and your right I didn't order any chocolate bars or trail mix. You might check out the latest Jeep News(Fall '2001). Jeep News is a magazine published by Daimler Chrysler and mailed out to Jeep owners in case your not familar with it. They had an article on Jeep collectibles. There are pictures of old Jeep ads, Jeep toys, and Jeep emblems. It's interesting to see the 60 year history of Jeep, and all the different vehicles they have produced. Also of interest is how they were marketed, and used both commercially and personally. Happy Jeepin!

here is my comment

Just to let the previous commentors know-I own 2 45 CJ-2A's, and one still has the original seat cover left on it which is made of naugahide leather very very similar to my 2001 Jeep Cherokee(XJ) Limited's leather seats-other than the color. I've seen CJ-3A's still with their original seats, leather, not canvas, as many people think. Leather is very tough-that is why the early CJ'S had them. In fact my leather seats are alot tougher than the previous Jeeps crappy fabric or vinyl seats. And yes my Cherokee Limited sees alot more off road than any of my other Jeeps-about 75% of its use is off-road.

I recieve the Jeep Provisions catalog in the mail, and the current one just arrived a couple of weeks ago. It features several old Jeep ads within the catalog, but it states that the ads are not for sale. My question is "Why Not".
I can't help but think they could sell a ton of these if they were to reprint them.
I would like to have several to hang in my garage to go with my other auto
memorabilia. I would guess they could sell more of these than some of the other crap they have in there ( trail mix and chocolate bars to name a couple ).
