What does $2.1 billion buy? Lots more Jeeps.

It seems that DaimlerChrysler has decided to invest some big bucks into Ohio - the first step in a bevy of new Jeep nameplates...

From TheToledoBlade.com:

The Toledo Jeep Assembly Plant would benefit from an investment of up to $2.1 billion, would double its product offerings to four vehicles, and would become a pioneer in the U.S. auto industry by allowing suppliers to do some assembly work under a tentative labor agreement reached yesterday.

...snip...

Chrysler would spend about $900 million on the local Jeep complex to build four vehicles, apparently starting with a redesigned Jeep Wrangler in 2006, according to an agreement summary that the UAW negotiating committee gave workers yesterday.

Investing $900 million to upgrade and expand a manufacturing facility is an excellent indicator
that DC is serious about the future of Jeep. One can only hope that a signifcant upgrade and expansion of available Jeep models accompanies it.

Jeep should spend some time in finding what jeep buyers have to say instead of john q public. They should check out some of the problems jeep owners have & how they are treated at the dealerships.
