Gunman Kills Two at Jeep Toledo Assembly

Two others injured in shooting
What can be said about this? Unbelievable. Our sympathies go out to the family of both men killed, and wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured. From CNN.com: An auto worker wired a shotgun to his body and burst into a Jeep assembly plant, killing a supervisor and wounding two other employees before killing himself. The alleged gunman, Myles Meyers, had met with plant officials to talk about a problem with his work the day before his fatal spree Wednesday at a Jeep Liberty Plant, authorities said. After entering the plant at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Meyers had pointed the gun at a woman in the plant's body shop office and ordered her to summon three other people, telling her he did not plan to hurt her, police Chief Mike Navarre said. "He gave her three names. He told her who he wanted and who he was going to shoot," Navarre said. She summoned one of the three men, Michael Toney, who was shot and wounded. Supervisor Roy Thacker, who was on the list of three, was killed after he went to the office on his own, while a third man who was not on the list, Paul Medlen, was wounded later, authorities said. Meanwhile, the woman then ran out of the office and warned co-workers over the radio, police said. Here's a link to the entire article.

Please explain a scenario where this tragedy could have been avoided by a conceal/carry law? Furthermore, from reports this wacko would have been allowed to get a permit under most states' laws that have concealed carry in place.

Obviously, Ohio's concealed carry law is not strong enough to over-ride corporate policy...
Many corporations do not allow firearms to be carried on corporate private property, and many do not even allow firearm owners to store their firearm in their vehicles parked on corporate property, meaning that unless they park their cars off-site, they cannot carry a firearm while at their place of employment, anyway, nullifying Ohio's "active concealed carry law"...
I don't know what Daimler's policy on bringing a LEGALLY owned, registered and carried firearm onto corporate property is...but I can only guess.
NYPDSGT and all the other Pro-Freedom, Pro-Democracy, and Pro-2nd Amendment guys and gals, thanks for backing me up on this one...
I am a law enforcement officer also, and I know for a fact that Law Abiding Citizens will always abide by the law, and Law-Breaking individuals will always brak the law...plain and simple.
It is up to those of us who choose to live within the laws of society that must protect the innocent. If gun control laws do not apply to criminals, because they choose to ignore the law, then they should not apply to law-abiding citizens either.
And yes, Jeeps and Firearms do go hand in hand, because the forces that want to disarm American Citizens are the same forces that want to take away your Jeep, the trails and OHV areas that you drive your Jeep, and ultimately your very control over the driving of your Jeep, and for that matter, your freedom to travel freely about the country, through tracking devices, checkpoints, and remote vehicle disabling systems (yes they are out there, or will be soon).
Mabye the government should spend more time and less money cultivating responsible, law-abiding citizens, rather than spending even more time and even more money finding ways to supress the rights of the majority law-abiding citizens just to keep a small percentage of law-breaking citizens in check.

I believe what all of you turned this story into is incredibly disrespectful to the familys of the victims. Did it ever occur to you that these victims were called to their execution one by one?!?!?!
Did it ever occur to you that the gunman chose to use a weapon so that he would be at the top of the veritable food chain, and everyone else under him would be prey???
Why do you think they call the gun 'the equalizer'???
I think a little equalizing would have gone a long way that day, and your dumb-ass soulution to the situation is to turn your head-lights on??? Oh yeah---that will fix everything....
I am by no stretch of the the definition a gun-nut, an extremist Republican, or a conservative, but I do know this...
The criminal mind revolves around Psychopathy, and there are many degrees of Psychopathy...not every Psychopath is of the Hanibal Lechter variety...In the mind of a Psychopath, all things belong to the Psychopath, (kinda like cats). The Psychopath believes that the world owes them whatever they want and nothing is owed to them, and it is alright for them to take what they want, go where they want, and do whatever they want, and it's okay to the Psychopath to use force and violence to get whatever they want...
These victims should have been able to defend themselves, instead they were victimized in of all places their place of employment...This incident is no different and no less tragic than 9/11, as the victims were harmed in their place of employment with no way of defending themselves...
As I said before, it seemed this guy was hell-bent on huring someone that day, and Gun-Control obviously didn't do any victim any good that day, and even if this guy couldnt get his hands on a gun, he could have used a knife, a baseball bat (Are we going to ban Baseball bats???), a machete, an I.E.D. (a gas can and a lighter will do the job just fine) to achieve his goal.
Im not going to repeat WHY a Firearm may have prevented the tragedy from occuring (see GunnEm #3), but I do believe that it may have...Again this site is all about opinion and theory, and this is just my opinion and theory...
Mabye an armed citizen would not have been able to stop the gunman, who knows??? Of course with the anti-gun atmosphere in this country the way it is, we will never know for sure now will we???
And by the way SPOOK, I DID see black helicopters out my windows, and they were flown by little green aliens wearing JEEP t-shirts that had the little 'pissy' kid with the letters 'OOJ' under his liquid stream, and I waved to them too, is there any thing wrong with that???
p.s. OOJ, I hope the TK has 4 Wheel Independent Suspension and is powered by the Prius Synergy Hybrid System, and I also hope that HUMMER gets custody of the 7-slot grille trademark, just so we can hear you cry for the next 3 decades, at which time the Aliens will swoop down and bring you up to the mothership, and probe your netherregions with a little tiny RAV-4 shaped probe...

FIRST of all, I am not trying to use this tragedy to promote concealed carry laws, SECOND,the last time I checked, I am NOT an Idiot (The Idiot is the one who is making blank statements about others they dont even know (no offense...)). THIRD, in my, and many others opinion, this tragedy could have been averted without a shot ever taking place, and NO loss of life, not even to the gunman. Simply put, (this is theory, mind you) if concealed carry laws were active, then...
1. The gunman would know that, while he may have a gun, at least one person around him could also have a firearm to defend themselves, and he would not know which one, because one or ALL of his co-workers could be armed...In a best case scenario, he would have thought twice about taking his anger out through the loss of human life, and never engaged in deadly actions...
2. If the gunman was still hell-bent on harming his co-workers, then if a worker were armed, they could use deadly force to stop the gunman from engaging in actions which are likley to cause death or great bodily harm...This would happen of course only after verbal warnings to stop his actions before deadly force is used (this is what is required of law enforcement officers, they can't just go blasting away, and neither could a private citizen who is allowed to carry a concealed weapon in states where is allowed). In a best case scenario, the gunman could have been talked out of engaging in actions which were likley to cause death or great bodily harm.
3. In a worst case scenario, the gunman could have been stopped from harming innocent victims through the lawful use of a firearm in the defense of human life: The operative word, STOPPED...I don't think that any law abiding citizen in this scanario wants to use their firearm to kill, and no one is to say that a criminal who is shot by a law abiding citizen who is allowed to carry a concaled firearm would automatically expire (although the chance does exist), the fact is, is that INNNOCENT life could be protected.
In each of these scenarios, the firearm is progressive in it's use...First presence (deterrence), second, verbal warning (a chance for the gunman to stop himself from engaging in actions that may cause death or great bodily harm), third, minimum force necessary to STOP someone from causing death or great bodily harm.
Believe it or not, there are more States in The Union that allow concealed carry than do not, (like 2:1), and we don't read about the whole United States going up in arms, and gun-controlled states being some kind of safe-haven...In fact the opposite is true, concealed carry states have the some of the lowest crime rates, without a shot being fired, simply because of deterrence, and gun-controlled states, being controlled by criminals who will own guns in spite of the law, because they are, after all, IMINALS and NOT law-abiding citizens, having the worst crime rates.
THERE'S YOUR SCENARIO(s)...

You have to wonder how stressful things are at the Liberty plant. I know the workers put in a lot of overtime, and keeping manufacturing jobs in the U.S. is real tough, especially with all of the foreign competition. I know many Jeep workers lost their jobs when the XJ (Cherokee) production ended. It has to be hard on the Ohio workers seeing the Wrangler jobs being migrated over to the 3 new suppliers. Additionally, new Jeep models are being planned, but those vehicles will not be built at Toledo North. The Toledo North plant was designed to build 2 completely different vehicles and also has the ability to build a third vehicle as a proto-type. It seems the plant is under used, and the workers are being over worked.
No matter what, my sympathies to the families that lost loved ones.
