Chrysler will upgrade, cut price for 12 vehicles posted by MarkH

Chrysler LLC is planning to improve the content and lower the price on 12 of its vehicles as part of a marketing campaign it plans to unveil next month, Vice Chairman and President Jim Press said yesterday during media previews at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, and Dodge Caliber are among the vehicles that will get the treatment, but he wouldn't give further details. The plan will be revealed to dealers at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in February.

The company, he said, has made 260 upgrades to its vehicles, mostly improvements in materials and appearance. That was part of a $150 million investment in existing products, he said. Next will be interior car improvements, he added.

Hmmm, maybe they do read our blogs!

They need to ditch the round headlights on the Patriot. It makes it look too cute. They need to put some Liberty/Commander style lights on there and make it a little stronger looking. They kept saying this is the real replacement to the Cherokee. It's too wimpy looking to be the replacement.

I think they can make some waves with the Patriot. Upgrade the interior, lower the price and yeah, ditch the Compass. Considering the fuel cost bump (thank the Chinese, not the sand-landowners) We are considering buying one. We have other Jeeps to play with offroad (six at last count). I think there is room for the Patriot in the mix.

Seriously........if they read the blogs, the 2008 1/2 wrangler would have a diesel.

As far as cutting the vehicles, the compass please! The patriot can stay, but rid us of FWD.

It will be interesting to see what the specific JEEP design changes & price cuts will be in February. As far as the JK, it seems like a Catch-22. They're backlogged in JK production & it's selling ~10,000 units/month on average, so they don't have to change a thing.

On the flip side, they should be making enough profit on the JKs to make viable business cases for variants like the JT and a diesel (or any other non-minivan engine). I don't know if they'll ride the wave to the shore or pump the beast for all it's worth, and give us a diesel, the 4.7L-V8 H.O. with a stick, and the JT with both those engine options.

Based on the past, I'm guessing the JKs will come away from this "Chrysler cash infusion" with nothing more than a couple of BS trim packages (Rocky Mountain, Columbia) for the rest of MY08...

Be still my beating heart...I thought for a moment when I saw the words "cut" and Patriot and Compass in the headlines, it meant that Jeep had come to it's corporate senses...but alas, it was not to be.
