MiscellaneousCool Rubicon Commercial, Jeep Shoes, Popular Web Site Goes Dark

Check out these three quick stories that are making news in the Jeep community.

One of our faithful readers sent us this link to a new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon commercial that we thought was pretty cool (click on the "Flexing" link).

USAToday.com is reporting that Jeep is expanding its accessories lineup with shoes - check this out:

Hoping to enhance its image of ruggedness, durability and outdoor adventure, Jeep will add trail-styled sports footwear to its roster of licensed goods in August. "Footwear is a part of the active outdoor lifestyle and that is Jeep's brand essence," says Debra Joester, CEO of the Joester Loria Group, licensing agency for the DaimlerChrysler brand, which, like Hummer, has roots as a military vehicle.

The shoes are $59.95 to $79.95 for men and $49.95 to $69.95 for women. Retailers will include J.C. Penney and sporting goods chain Gart Sports. The price is a deal compared with the price to get off the road in a real Jeep: $17,000 for the Wrangler to $30,000-plus for a Grand Cherokee.

Jeep already has a number of licensed consumer goods, including strollers, bikes, luggage and camping gear.

Click here for the entire story on USAToday.com that also reveals what other auto companies are doing to promote their brands.

Finally today, several readers have emailed us asking if we knew what happened to the popular Web site car-truck.com - we're as much in the dark about this as you guys are. All we know is that they went dark around April 1, and no substantive reason was given for the closure. The site's owner posted a message in late March letting readers know that he was moving on to "another opportunity". If anyone has any further info on this topic, please post it in the "Reader Reactions" to this article. Thanks!

I am one of the sad lot of many who have been checking car-truck.com for the past 51 days to no avail. I've done searches for "Buzz Chrysler", and found only dead links. He had a very big following and I'm sure many people are lost out there without their daily buzz-fix. I know they were based in Colorado. I have the address for CAR & TRUCK NEWS 1200 Madison Street Box 710 Denver, Colorado 80206-3440, and considered dropping them a land line asking them what's up, or when they'll be back. He spoke highly of mike's site, so I'm sure lots of buzz followers are here, should we all write and let him know the site is missed and how big the following is? I'll leave that up to Mike- feel free to edit this post. -Thanx!

"Mr Buzz" as he called himself had said that the website was going down and was reappearing in the future under a new version. Unfortunately, there is no link to the current car-truck.com site.

I am very sad to see this site go down. They had updates every day on current and new models and buzz within the Chrysler Corporation. Their sketch posted on the site about 2 years ago on the upcoming LX models was hauntingly close to the actual mode. This solidified the website's credibilty as a legitimate source of information. What a shame to see them go. I truly feel lost without their rumors.

What marked that site was that the rumors were more true than not. Really good source of advance information, hopefully it'll be back. Along with this site Car-Truck News was a bookmarked site that was worth regular visits.

The day before car-truck.com closed, I read a message stating something like:

"Car-Truck.com version 2.0 will be out, but I don't know when it will be completed. In this time, the e-mail address will be non-operational."

That's just a summary, and I'm very hurt that this site is temporarily nonoperational. It provided all sorts of rumors, and I was very happy to read them, true or not!
