Disguised photos appear on the web...

How did we miss these pictures a few months back? We just found some spy shots of the 2005 Jeep Commander at TheCarConnection.com. Here's some of the text that went along with the photos:

You've heard it referred to as the Grand Wagoneer, or maybe even by its codename YK. But it's practically official - Jeep's upcoming seven-passenger luxury ute with three rows of seats will be called the Jeep Commander.

Powered by a 4.7-liter V-8, or an optional 5.7-liter Hemi, the super-sized Jeep will reach dealerships in time for the 2006 model year. Expect the Commander to be in the $40,000 range.

Here's a link to the photos.

We found this info posted on the DodgeTalk.com forums - not sure if it is true or not, but it contains some interesting facts (although we've heard that is will debut sometime this fall, not next year).

The Jeep Commander will have its world debut on that date at the NY International Auto Show. The Commander starts production at Jefferson North July 2005 and will be built simultaneously along with the 2006 Grand Cherokee. Both models will arrive at dealers in late August 2005.

Meanwhile, over at Toledo South, plans are taking shape to build the next generation Wrangler (including a 4-door version!!) for the 2006/2007 model year, same time frame that a Jeep "Compass" type vehicle will be built at Belvidere...

No word on a "Rescue" Jeep vehicle, seems that R&D costs would be too high for the lower sales volume that would be generated with such a specialized vehicle, but you never know...

...snip...

For those who dont know, Commander is a Ram truck-based 7-passenger SUV, with a Hemi, and it is larger than a Durango or a Grand Cherokee. Should be a nice addition to the DCX lineup. :)

I think we've already gone over these photos, maybe not. That's a Camero's tail end that the front hood of the Jeep is not much taller than. It looks more like a wagon than a sport ute. I wouldn't expect anything Rescue like from this. It looks like the front end and wheel arches will have a strong family resemblence to the Grand Cherokee. If you look closely, you can see the two rounded headlights on each side and a curved fender coming into those round headlights. I think it will look just like the grand only a more upright windshield and tailgate and a longer wheelbase.

The frontend looks out of place. It looks too small for the rest of the vehicle. Look at the one photo, the frontend is just slightly taller than the trunk of the SEDAN in front of it. Hopefully it is just all the camo that is obscuring the rest of the vehicle that is causing it to appear that way...

Go to the website http://www.ultimatejeep.com/

scroll down to hummer3... IT shows the new H3 being tested on the famed rubicon trail. That front end is looking more like a jeep front end than ever...
Interesting how they are now testing vehicles on the rubicon trail.... Didn't jeep say they didn't have to run the rubicon trail.. just be trail rated? Sounds like hummer/GM is going after the hardcore jeep fan.

I don't know if; because of the angle of the spy shot...if the new Commander is actually based from the "Ram" platform...It looks like it's actually based on the new '05 "Durango" platform...because of the size of the vehicle in front of it('97-up Camaro) wouldn't a "Ram" size vehicle dwarf the F-Body Camaro?..It sure looks like the new Commander is more Mid-Large size than Full size...don't you all agree?

It definitly has a look that will make the hard core jeep owners look twice, especially if it has some merit to be on the Rubicon trail. Jeep should take note, stop messing around and build the rescue(as well as other models and revitalize the wrangler) . They are going to loose customers if they keep treading water.

Hmmnn,

from the looks of the picture... It looks like the commander is more boxier... front grile is more straight.. window more straight..... This vehicle may actually be the closest you will get to the rescue for now.... Remember the rescue was off of a dodge ram frame.... Or so they said at the auto show.
