WranglerCrash Ratings for 4-door Released
Posted by CitizenArc on 2006/12/13 11:32:00 (1305) reads

The National Highway and Transportation Safety Association recently released its results for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited frontal crash ratings. The results are impressive - 5 star safety for both the driver and passenger.

The recently released data also shows that neither the 2-wheel drive nor the 4-wheel drive models have an high risk of rollover. The 2-wheel drive model has a 19% chance of a rollover in a single vehicle crash (earning a 4-star rating) and the 4-wheel drive model has at 27% chance (earning a 3-star rating).

It is important to note that both the 2-wheel drive model and the 4-wheel drive model are equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC). If you follow general automotive news, you'll have recently read about the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety's recent push to get ESC into more vehicles sooner. They're lobbying lawmakers to speed implementation of a federal rule to require ESC on all new vehicles.

The full results are available at their web site.

Nice - wonder what the results will be when the european crash test companies get their hands on it.

Comparable to the Liberty - it's pretty damn good :)

ESC on all vehicles to improve safety=good. ESC on all vehicles you can not turn off=suck on a stick!

I test drove a Rav4 with a friend a year ago on a snowy day. We took it into a snow covered subdivision. I goosed it around a corner to have a little fun and a screeching beeping about 60% the volume of a smoke alarm filled my ears and the abs kicked in and all the throttle was cut to the engine. Massively lame.

No I get not everyone wants to have fun in their vehicle but even just normal to brisk attempts to drive on the snow elicited angry screeching from the Rav4. It was unbearable and there is no way to turn it off.

My friend took it back to the dealer and told the sales guy he had no interest and the reason why. He was willing to sign papers that day before the excursion onto snow.

I have experienced this on other vehicles as well amd it is out of control with the nannying.

I won't ever buy anything without an off switch or a proven hack to disable the system for times when I want control.
