MiscellaneousMore 2000 Jeep Reports

The reports of model year 2000 Jeeps keep coming in, here are some of the highlights:

I have just leased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited a few weeks ago and there are only minor changes from '99. There is different wood grain, the cluster is has been refined and the ac\heater vents work better.

...gas cap info...

I work at a Jeep dealer. We have already had and sold the 2000 model Wranglers and Cherokees. The biggest difference the the fact that the gas cap isn't the full turn, but the quarter turn style. They drive the same...and that's good news.

...color restriction...

A dealer told me that there was a "restriction" on the silver stone color on the 2000 Wranglers.

...no charge automatic...

I saw a 2000 in black at the Manhattan, NY dealership. The are NO major changes. The most obvious are the new canyon alloys. The interior is the same.

I hear that they are not offering the no charge automatic on the 2000's - no real surprise there.

...2WD V8?...

Big news is (the dealer tells me) that the V8 will be available in 2WD this year. Us performance guys wont have to pay the extra $2000 for 4WD we dont need or want.

Another reader sent us the following information - we haven't been able to confirm any of it, so be sure to classify this as a rumor...

Rumor is they are bringing back the Jeepster (with a fully adjustable suspension for road driving and off-roading) and the Comanche. They are working on a fully electronic Jeep called the Commander. Unfortunately, and I hope that this isn't true, rumor is the Wrangler may be getting a COMPLETELY new look. If this IS true, I hope they still keep the classic style, and sell it along side the new. The Grand Wagoneer should be seeing the light on day due to a large scale of people requesting a bigger SUV than the Grand Cherokee. Other possible come backs are the Jeep Scrambler and a full size Jeep half-ton.

Can anybody confirm??? Contact us at jeepnews@onetomany.com
