The new Jeep Liberty Renegade is deemed illegal to own if you live in West Virginia.
From WTVM in Columbus, Georgia:
Buying a Jeep Liberty Renegade is enough to make you an outlaw in West Virginia.Renegades are illegal in the state, because they're too high.
At 72 inches, the Renegade's roof-mounted light bar is too far off the ground. West Virginia law limits light heights to 42 inches, so inspection stickers cannot be issued for the Renegade.
State police say it's O-K to drive Renegades in West Virginia if they're registered in other states, but West Virginians are barred from owning them.
A spokeswoman for DaimlerChrysler, which produces the Jeep line, says West Virginia may be the only state where the Renegade is illegal. She says she hopes something can be worked out.
One Jeep dealer says not being able to see the model is costing him money.
