aww, give the kid an honary driver's license and send him on his way. That's what I had to go with my Power Wheels Jeep when I was little.

there is absolutely no way this is true. my two year old nephew can hardly open a door by himself much less operate a cell phone.

I junior Jeep driver!

First of all, this story is true. Jack is my son. And to the comment that we aren't too bright, what would you have suggested we do, tie him to the bed? Let me explain my son and the night of the incident.......Jack is a very smart and very adventurous little boy. He doesn't have a "wondering" problem, this was the only time he got out of the house and the only time he woke up in the middle of the night. On two previous occasions he woke up in the morning and went into the kitchen while we were in the bathroom getting dressed and got into the kitchen sink and played with the water. After seeing him do that we put a chime on his bedroom door so that we could hear him open it (we decided against "locking" him in there in case of fire and such) We did lock his door to his bathroom so that he would have to go out the bedroom door with the chime instead. That day we realized he could pick the lock on the bathroom door, so we decided that we needed to buy a chime for that door too, which we planned on doing the next day. That night Jack woke up around 1 am (because he wet the bed - he is newly potty trained and wears pull-ups to bed but didn't have one on that night) went downstairs, saw that we were sleeping, decided to go into the garage (his favorite place to play - where BTW, he's not allowed to play) got into my truck, played with my cell phone and all the things in my car, opened the garage door with the opener in the truck and got into his jeep and went on his little journey. And yes, we have an alarm on our house, but we had company that night and decided not to set the alarm in case they wanted to go outside. So you see, it was just a number of things that all had to happen together for Jack's great escape. Since then we put another lock on the bathroom door (a hook latch that locks from the inside) and we haven't had any "incidents" since.

I think his dad and I are bright and so is our son. The only reason we allowed the news to do the story is so that parents will know that children are very capable of these things. And if our story will help save the life of another child then that makes all of it worthwhile, after all, we realize how lucky we were and that this story could have had a much sadder ending.

Here in NY, the "Child Protective" Authorities would have removed the child from the Family and placed in Foster Car. The Parents arent to bright, knowing thier child has the wondering "problem".
