WranglerJT (pickup) and J8 Test Drives
Posted by mike on 2008/3/25 13:22:00 (3493) reads

Our friends over at JPFreek recently got the opportunity to get behind the wheel of both the JT Concept and the J8 (Egyptian).

I got to drive both the "JT" and the J8 Egyptian truck on a trail run with the Chrysler reps this morning. Tim Piele, Editor in Chief of CRAWL Magazine, drove my Cherokee hauling their camera gear and we got some really cool pics.

The Chrysler Guys were awesome, even when I picked a retarded line (intentionally) and lifted the front tire of the prototype JT up about a foot to make a bitchin' magazine picture. Definitely one of the coolest wheeling experiences I've had wheeling.

Check out the full thread for some pictures as well.

The JT and/or the Gladiator concepts will never be produced for a N. American market. Y? Cause Chrysler is NOT listening. But guess who is building a pickup truck . Pontiac. And guess who else is building a pickup truck. Volkswagen. Looks like everyone is using different market research from Chrysler. HEY Chrysler, CAN YOU HEAR US N O W.

Hmmmmm....Pontiac building a truck? I'll guess that it's either going to be a re-badged full sized GM truck. Or it's going to be a re-badged Colorado/Canyon.....I'd pass on either iteration.....I'm ready for something completely fresh and new.

Now VW needs to reenter the small truck market again....I've been hoping that VW will consider this move. The US market is ripe for a new and exciting small sized truck. I was hoping to see Suzuki build a small truck but unfortunately they are teaming up with Nissan to re-badge the Frontier and I'll be passing on that too.

It's actually a rebadged Holden Ute and is part of the G8 family. Kind of a new El Camino.

I am lucky to be living in Cairo - Egypt these days.
I am in touch with some serious big wig @ the Jeep assembly plant here.
The J8 will enter official production on this coming June 15th. I have an appointment to see it first hand on the assembly line on June 20th!!!
However I do not guarantee if they'll allow me to snap any pics.
I also know for sure that they will be producing right hand drive J8s based on a contract with the British army as well.
The J8 will be produced in 2 & 4 door variants.

The plan is that about 300 units will be taken off the assembly line & outfitted with civilian trim (JK). I have my name on one already!!!

I'll keep you posted
