 Jeep Liberty: Chrysler's Most Reliable Car

Consumer Reports says so!
Consumer Reports magazine has recently released their reliability ratings for 2003 and for the first time in 25 years, American cars are rated more reliable than European cars. The study also found that the Jeep Liberty is the most reliable car for the Chrysler brand. Here's a snippet of the press release:
Consumer Reports’ annual auto reliability survey shows that new vehicles from Detroit’s Big Three automakers are now slightly more reliable, on average, than those from European makers. The survey also shows that vehicles from Ford, General Motors and Chrysler tend to hold up better than European makes as time passes.
This is the first time in decades that domestically-built vehicles have done so well in Consumer Reports’ highly regarded auto-reliability survey. Consumer Reports survey is the largest of its kind to gauge automotive reliability. CR surveyed subscribers to its magazine and web site, ConsumerReports.org, in 2003 to obtain reliability data on some 675,000 privately owned or leased cars, trucks, minivans, and sport-utility vehicles.
Overall, the most reliable vehicles continue to be built by Asian automakers in Japan and Korea.
Survey findings are published in CR’s Annual April Auto Issue, which is on sale from March 9 through June 9. The Auto Issue is available wherever magazines are sold and may also be ordered online at ConsumerReports.org.

Here’s a look at how manufacturers stacked up in CR’s reliability survey: - Chrysler has made great strides during the past several years. Some new Chrysler models have been reliable since their introduction; in the past, some new Chrysler models tended to be problematic. The Jeep Liberty was the most reliable 2003 Chrysler vehicle. The Chrysler PT Cruiser also had above-average reliability. The Dodge Ram and Dodge Neon improved to average overall.
- Ford continues to suffer from teething pains—problems with new or redesigned models during their first few years. For example, the new-for-2003 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator fared poorly in this survey. But Ford was able to improve the reliability of some of the models that have been in production for several years, such as the Ford Focus, Lincoln LS, Ford Escape, Ford Explorer, and Mazda Tribute, the Escape’s twin. CR is now able to recommend all of those models.

I imagine H2 owners are a lot like Land Rover owners. Although the vehicles are sort of unreliable, they can justify the cost and frequency of repairs by how much they love their rigs.
I've been converted to Jeep because I have that same feeling yet my Jeeps have been reliable.

I still don't know how Hummer H2 got in the most satisfying conventional SUV list when it was at the bottom of the reliability list. I guess people who buy the H2 can be satisfied even when they are dropping a few dollars at the shop.

You must have a fluke.. Because at the dealership I work at.. The liberty doesn't come in for too many problems.. One of the reasons Why I bought one. (side note. maybe try another dealer.. Sometimes you will get a dealer/tech that will just replace things until it's fixed.)
For me I have yet to have any problems. Same with my dad who owns one. So far the best vehicles he and I have ever owned and I grew up with chryslers all my life (dad works for them).
The Wrangler unlimited.... Should not have any problems due to the fact it's basically a wrangler..

I've put a ton of money (read: thousands of dollars) into this POS in the last few years... worst part is IT'S A LEASE! It's up at the end of next month, at which time I will be turning it in and purchasing a Jeep Wrangler.

often overlooks the quality of the Wrangler for whatever reason. I have several friends who have Wranglers and have never had a single problem.

Huh - You'd think that the Wrangler would be the most reliable since it is the least complex for the 3 Jeeps. It's also been out for a while.
I've never had any problems with my 2001 XJ or 2001 TJ although I've owned them less than 3 years - much more reliable and fun than my old Ford Exploder.

When i purchased my jeep all i heard from family and friends was how many problems they had in older jeeps or their "friends" had. Mine has done well with 80K miles on the Grand Cherokee, Keep it up Jeep...

Dealer has had it 3 times and keeps replacing sensors and wires and control modules, at least this time it's held up so far (for 2 weeks at least). Gotta get back in a TJ as soon as I can, maybe an Unlimited when they get out.

I've had one minor problem with my wife's TJ, it was a bit of a pain, but the dealership was good about repairing it under warranty...
The thing to remember is that the "average" quality today would have been "well above average" a few years ago...
