WranglerJL Wrangler Will get a 4.0L V6

Jeepers shouldn't worry about the new 3.8L V6 engine in the current JK Wrangler. It was noted a couple a months back the DCX was working on a family of new V6 engines that would be used by the Chrysler Group as well as Mercedes.

Here is a list of the next generation V6 engines with a list of possible candidates for each of the engines.

1... 3.0L V6 base Phoenix (next gen LX, J1, L2, R2)
2... 3.0L V6 premium Phoenix (L2)
3... 3.3L V6 base Phoenix (current gen JS Avenger/Sebring, next gen RT Minivan)
4... 3.3L V6 premium Phoenix (current gen JS Avenger/Sebring, next gen RT Minivan)
5... 3.6L V6 base Phoenix (current gen JS Avenger/Sebring, current and next gen KA Nitro, next gen KK Liberty, next gen RT minivan, next gen LX, Grand Cherokee current and next gen, next gen Commander)
6... 3.6L V6 HEV Phoenix Engine (next gen RT minivan)
7... 3.6L V6 premium Phoenix Engine (current and next gen LX, next gen RT minivan)
8... 3.6L V6 PZEV Phoenix Engine (next gen RT minivan)
9... 4.0 V6 base Phoenix (next gen Pacifica, next gen NE Dakota, next gen Ram, next gen KK Liberty, current and next gen KA Nitro, next gen LX, next gen Grand Cherokee, next gen Commander, next gen JL Wrangler)
10... 4.0 V6 premium Phoenix (vehicles unknown)

The list of engines along with some discussion can be found here http://www.allpar.com/mopar/phoenix-engines.html

It should be noted that the Phoenix engines will start being available for the 2010 model.

For Jeep fans it should be noted that the new 3.6L and 4.0L V6's will find its way into the next generation Liberty (KK), Grand Cherokee, Commander, and Wrangler (just the 4.0L).

The 3.8L V6 currently found in the JK Wrangler is thought be to be stop-gap. With the 4.0L finding its way into the next gen Wrangler come 2012-2014.

Is there any news on the JN? Perhaps if they want to think another 6 years into the future, lets go the whole hog and think of 18 years.

This is rediculous. Why not think of ways to improve models NOW?

A 6 year wait for another engine for the Wrangler? Nice. Dr. Z will probably have engineered the mileage up to 18/20 by then .

Does anybody else out there get the feeling that the American auto companies (and I love them to death) are planning out engine debutes five years from now that compete with what the Jap companies already have out on the road. I know it has been beaten to death as far as the comparisons between the FJ and the wrangler but damn. Not to mention the xterra. Both out gun the new JK by a pretty large margin already. Add to that some time to grow and just when the JL is released with a 250hp v6 the toy and nissan might be coming out with a 300hp 4.0 v6. I was truely dissapointed to hear the output and mpg figures for the new release.

I just read (in Car and Driver) that the Pacifica is getting the 255hp 4.0. If they share the same mounts and such with the Wrangler (for the 3.8) why can't the Wrangler get the 4.0 now also ?

Wasn't the 4.0 based on the 3.5? That engine needed to be revved more to get to its peaks; the 3.8 is low on paper-power but good for everyday driveability.

If Jeep did put the 4.0L in the Jeep I think we would be hearing the same story about the fact the the torque is found at too high of an RPM.

Stop-gap? 2007-2011. That seems like more than a stop-gap.

Stop-gap meaning that the engine will cease production in about 6 years.

If this was 1990, when most of DCX's V6 hit the market, we would have to wait over 20 years to get a replacement.

I'd take 6-years over 20 anyday.

Next generation Wrangler code.

Also I forgot to mention diesels in the above article. I have yet to hear any info on a diesel engine. That doesn't mean that one will not appear in the future.

Article talks only of gasoline engines.
